Don't give me the bs line about "do no harm". If that were true they would take more extreme measures with people who smoke. Look at how harmful cigarettes are. Look at all the long term damage they do and how much they shorten your lifespan. If they truly cared about your health and well being they would report you to the police if they found out you were doing drugs. This is why I say locking you up against your will is nothing but a money grab and a crock of ****

One of the reasons why doctors should either report suicidal people, or, have suicidal people report themselves with the help of the doctor, is because of a legal case called "Tarasoff" that happened in California. Someone going to therapy discussed the topic of killing with their psychologist. So there's a lead-in to this article which discusses the issue:
Physician duty to report danger: The case of Tatiana Tarasoff | Orthopedics Today
Oh, "do no harm" is taken very, very seriously. The therapeutic alliance is a sacred trust. And a physician or psychologist tells the patient about being a mandated reporter during the initial session, as part of the informed consent process.
A cigarette does not have the same effect as a bullet.
