I'm on fmla for my depression, yes it excuses your absence but you get 12 weeks, paid or unpaid. I used my entire 12 weeks last year and my boss approved my absence after that for a couple of months till it was time to file new fmla papers. My pdoc completed my medical certification for me and right now my paperwork gives me 4 days a month for fmla. If I end up hospitalized or my situation changes to where I can't work I'll have to fill out another set of paperwork
