I agree with Fall! I used to think dream analysis was crap but once I learned more about the nonverbal mind, it makes sense to me now and I do it when I can remember my dreams and it's kind of mildblowing what I'm trying to tell myself while I sleep.
The concept I ascribe to is this: Your subconscious mind doesn't use language. Language is a function of your conscious mind. So when you dream, your subconscious is viewed through symbols. The symbols in your dream have to be interpreted by you. The same object doesn't necessarily mean the same thing to two different people. So you put yourself in the position of each element of your dream. You say, "I am my grandma's house. I am warm and inviting. I'm where family goes when something important happens." And you do that for every person, object, place in your dream. Then you retell the story of your dream replacing the object with the meaning of the object.
Martha Beck explains that method it in her book Steering by Starlight really well and gives examples. It might be at your local library.
If you're having really vivid powerful dreams, maybe your subconscious really has something to say!!
