I have heard a lot of stories like yours about kratom and only a few of people having trouble with it (because they took too much too often which I fear I might do).

There are some people that do try to abuse kratom, but it will make you vomit profusely if you consume too much. There's a compound in it that causes this when consumed en masse. I've never had an addictive personality, in that when I wanted to quit a habit, I just stopped doing it, ie smoking and drinking. I found my amount needed and take enough being sure not to waste it. I never get any sort of high from it, except maybe some mild stimulant effect, like coffee, or relaxing effect, like meditation. I simply just don't hurt as bad or at all. When I skip kratom or am taking a break, I don't have withdrawals, I just return to hurting as I did before it.
