I learned really early on that my mother could be unreasonable and her rules were stupid, so I let her think I obeyed, then I did as I wanted.
You are a really good kid.
If you choose to obey your parents and wear the coats, just tell the kids who poke fun at you that you think it’s stupid too, but it makes your nervous parents happy. Nice kids will understand and stop making fun of you. Nasty kids who continue are just jerks.

Sometimes I wish I wasn’t. I wish I could rebell against my parents like you did, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. This morning it was snowing when I walked to school so I would have looked stupid trying to argue with my mom about my winter clothes. Whenever I do talk about how she makes me dress, she always just says that if I’m not bundled up I’ll get sick.
