The weight should be about 10% of your weight, up to 20 lbs or so. Mine (all 3) have plastic beads. I wouldn't want glass beads for fear of damage if somehow (mine is well-made and tearing would be really difficult) there was a tear. It also washes well without the beads getting all hot.
For me it is all pros. I'm an OT, the people who have been using weighted blankets for many years, and I was taught that if you are a sensory seeker and the blanket really helps the heat won't bother you. I do tend to kick it off more in the summer but it still is draped across my hips and lower back.
