Green, I don't find you to be a failure at all. You are not the first person to need some accommodation for a class, and you won't be the last.
Talk to your prof and or the guidance counselor or your advisor. Explain the situation, and ask for a do-over and for more time. There's no reason why they won't work with you on this, especially with the economic crisis. They want to keep every student they can. ((((hug)))
