I posted this in the creative forum but I wanted to share here too...
I have done a ton of healing over the past year... but there is one thing I still have not been able to face. I have three of my four biological grandparents who were alchoholics. My mom drank while preg with me. I started making my own alchohol when I was 12 with grape juice from school - in my closet.

I need to be on this forum for true support.

I need to stop drinking.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Desire unspoken
Speaks truths unheard
From inside the outside
Not even one word
Heartbeat of longing
Contempt unknown
Promised surrender
In much stranger form
Replacement wanted
For needs unmet
Questions from answers
I tried hard to forget
Shame masquerading
As self-loathing defeat
Whiskey, sweat whiskey
You hide only deceit
My hand reaches out
To grasp your escape
My body trembles
A form this can take
Putting you back
In my secret place
Tears slip down
Staining my face
Longing for you
Please take me away
From what I fear most
My first sober day
((WePow)) - you're brave for admitting this. Alcoholism runs on my family too...my brother was a lifelong alcoholic. This is why I don't touch it. Are you going to join a support group. I'm sending you strength and positive vibes ((WePow))
WePow,
Congraqtulations on taking this first step and asking for help. It's the beginning of a journey. I don't know if you drink every day, or how much, but if you're a daily drinker, especially if you drink a lot, detox can be risky, and should be monitored. They can also give you meds to help make the detox more manageable. I'd urge you to talk to your Dr. and be totally honest with him/ her about your usage, and see if they think you can safely quit cold turkey or would be better off with a medically supervised detox. Because I have a history of withdrawal seizures, I needed medical detox.
It is very hard to stop drinking on your own without support. Some people go to treatment, either residential or outpatient. I don't know if your insurance would cover this or if you could get time off work. I found it helpful.
AA can also be incredibly helpful, go to lots of meetings and don't drink between meetings. I find AA has given me lots of support.
If you do decide to try detoxing on your own, I'd do it on a weekend where you don't have to be anywhere. Have lots of gatorade on hand and force as many fluids as you can, even if you keep throwing them up. Also have easy to digest food on hand preferably with some protein on it. Peanut butter on toast always worked for me.
Remember you are not alone. Lots of us have been where you are now, and it does get better.
Me too Wepow...............Slowly eliminating the crutches in my life.....This is the last one, but it's so hard to learn to face your life sober....(it's not pretty, but it is what it is). I admire you for your determination and honestly I am right where you are....Praying for both of us tonight.
