Who told you this? Terminal means you'll never quit til you're dead. I've never heard of anyone being told this.
Do you use methadone to get HIGH? Do you use it for chronic pain?? Be honest so i can help. I'm on methadone for chronic pain along with the Fentanyl patch, and it doesn't make me high at all. If it ever does, I'll quit taking it. Let me know so I can explain. Hugs, Lee |

(i heard terminal addiction used a lot when they gave up on you)
terminal addiction: meaning.......you cannot be cured your addiction cannot be cured...ahemm which is a load of well ya know! u r probably talking to people that think taking any drug weather its to help or not is bad. cause god forbid you give a recovered junkie (speaking of myself) anything for the pain...let em suffer. my old rehab wouldn't even let us have coffee ...caffiene bad! smoking cigarettes ok! |

From my knowlege on addictions there is no such term, imho. we all have a choice/freewill whether we choose to stop using or not. i've found "terminal recovery" far more promising than the opposite for my life. it can be done but the person needs the willingness to change.

A year after my second surgery I became addicted to crank I went from snorting it to smoking it to IV user. I think it had alot to do with My mental Illnesses and how I felt about my self. I know Terminal addiction to me sound's like a bunch of hockey to me. but I went to a medical detox and that is what they said. 18 year's of survival ship from Cancer and 6 surgeries later and each surgery caused new problem's and having many mental Heath Issues was as they said the reason for this Diagnoses. I have been trying real hard to get away from it. I have been in and out of NA but they real do not under stand how my Disabilities and my mental Illness affect's me. And when I do try to talk about it they make me feel like I am uninportant and have no reason to talk about it. ( it one of those pull up the boot strap thing's ) you know just be thankful your alive. But with every thing going on at once some times it's hard to feel that way. I have watched my mother go threw a stroke that left her right side unusabled. I just lost my little brother the day before easter and a Week and half later I lost me little sister. besides just trying to deal with me.Now I have to deal with the prison system and the funeral home over my Brother's ashes. It feel's like I am so over whelmed with thing's. And people make me feel that I am not Important and their just has not been any one their for me in the last 17 year's. Sorry I just needed to get it out. I just want to scream but what good that will do.

sorry every one the train just slammed into the wall. I just have to much to deal with. taking care of mom and and a sister with severe COPD who can not or will I say won't do the simplest thing's for her self. trying to figure out how to pay my bill's trying to figure out how to pay the funeral homes. Trying to start a business to help pay the bill's and no help from any body no in put from other family member's. And me with a Mental Illness that Generally makes Bad Disission's. For once I wished I had some that would say let's sit down and figure this out or how can I help you. I am sorry does not live here any more. It doea not make me feel better and does not help me in any way, to me it is just a lame way of saying thei is nothing I can do. and God help them if they have to sit a listen to me.

Hi Whitneyman ~ Have you ever been in therapy? I have found that a psychologist worked the best for me, as opposed to a psychiatrist. I realize that you probably don't have the finances for this right now, but it COULD be the most helpful thing for you at this time. You seem to have several issues that you need to talk about and get thru, and a therapist can help you do that.
As for NA ~~~ most addicts don't like that group and they end up going to AA, even tho that's for alcoholics. The idea is the same. You would be welcomed in most groups -- BUT you have to do the work in order to recover. I too have mental illness, but I did recover from alcoholism and have almost 18 years sobriety. So it is not impossible to recover - plus you will find others in AA who have mental illness as well. We have to be willing to change our way of life, and our "playmates" if we're going to get sober. Some counties have Mental Health Agency, and within that they also have a psychologist that sees patients based on ability to pay. You might check with your county and see if yours has any program like this. I wish you the very best Whitneyman ~ and God bless!!! Hugs, Lee |

first off whitney a 12 step program focuses on the addiction and our powerlessness unless we surrender to the fact we have a problem. then how to fix the problem using the 12 steps of recovery... realizing we can't halt our addiction unless we ask for help. many, many ppl in the rooms, including me, have MH issues, trauma, abuse, etc.. of course we tried to numb our trauma, pain, etc. by choosing a mood altering drug to accomplish this. problem is this useage/"cure" exacerbates itself into full blown addiction. the only fix is to focus on our recovery rather than our past. the 12 steps help us see our part in our addiction and suggests we take responsibility for our own self destructive actions. if you feel life things have affected you also and U need help with it i'd suggest therapy too. i have done this with success for 21 years. i was told AA was about my alcohol problems and not about life problems. perhaps my post may enlighten you. some of us need "outside help" and the 12 step program advises us to do that in the Big Book-abstinence in a 12 step program plus therapy in yours and my case, imho. if you lie down and say "i'm terminal", then terminal you will be. as for me i choose life instead.
