Down ol’ buddy, Happy New Year!

Not to pick a fight or anything, but I liked your old avatar better than your new one. And I liked the one you were using when I first met you best of all. At any rate, good to see you are still suckin’ air.

Me, I‘m still trudgin’ the road to the good stuff,
Richard

Well, things change as the shock and numbness of waking up in a Fascist Theocracy wear off, shadowalker. Sometimes obstruction(s/ists) get in the way of important objectives and must be overcome or bypassed in order to reach goals.

Down…

We have things we disagree on, but I think we have common ground as well. In fact I suspect if we sat down and went down the list, we might find ourselves on the same page more often than not.

I have been able to separate my spirituality from organized religion quite easily. I can understand how a guy like yourself might see them as two sides of the same coin, and in turn hold the lot of it in deep suspicion.

Most religious texts (and I am no expert here) were written as parable. Stories used to build and control a social structure. And somewhere along the line, these stories morphed into yardsticks to measure punishable offences. That seems to be a sad aspect of human nature.

The exception that comes to mind is Daoism. And that isn’t even a religion in the strictest sense. There is no God Head, no Deity, no circumscribed code or scripture that need to be obeyed or suffer the consequences. Just attempting to find the natural harmony within ones own being. As they say, “No self, no problem”

You are right about one thing Down, “Things change” The only thing that doesn’t change is the fact that everything is going to change. And that is a good thing.

Still on the road to the good stuff,
Richard

I don't want to get off the subject of the links nore violate guidelines while discussing them or anything much else here.

I will say although there maybe something we hold in common shadowalker, our perspectives seem almost opposite. I think distruction of the self is the problem with religion and abhorrent. According to the dictionary spirituality and religion are the same, and against site guidelines.

I’m with you Down ol’ buddy…

The truth will set us free. Look at all the links my friend had supplied, also look at the programs those links trash, look everywhere.

The only measurement I think one ought to use in determining where the truth lives is, at the end of the day, at the culmination of any course of action, am I happy? Am I free? Am I more whole and sane than when I began?

One of my favorite quotes is from one of my earliest spiritual gurus, Don Jaun. And it goes like this…

"Any path is only a path and there is no affront, to oneself or to others, in dropping it if that is what your heart tells you. Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary. Then ask yourself, and yourself alone, one question...Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn't it is of no use

Don Jaun

Here’s hoping to see you all on the road to the good stuff

Wow, some fascinating wisdom here, as well as controversy, as well as thought provoking!!

personally, I am involved in 12 step stuff, AND I am poitical in my own way. It has p.ed me off in meetings when they use disposable cups and further pollute the invironment.... wheres the responsiblilty in that!? I think one has to do both, take a stand in every area of life. So, I did and I do to my imperfect best ability.
The single focus of a meeting is there for a good reason, if you look at the history its all documented.

Interesting discussion, I like holy cow challengers, as long as it doesnt hurt whats vulnerable.
