Drinking will not solve your problems, it will only make them worse. Plus if you start drinking to change your mood, you run the risk of addiction and trust me you don't want to go there.

There are meds that can help with anxiety, as can CBT.

Hey Crazydancinggirl,

Is there any way you can reduce your anxieties? Medication? Relaxation techniques? etc

Do you think you could try something to prevent you wanting to drink?
Thanks for this!

Try using some your mindfulness thinking from DBT.....logical mind says, Drinking will not solve the anxiety it will only make it worse in the end......emotional mind says.....crap, I'm anxious, I want something to take it away.

wise mind....puts the thoughts together & comes up with the RIGHT solution......there are meds available for anxiety which aren't addicting like alcohol can be & are much better for you & will really HELP the anxiety feeling rather than just drown it with alcohol which is a depressant so you would only then feel more depressed on top of any anxiety. Rest of wise mind says that masking the anxiety doesn't get rid of it....one needs to work on the issues that are causing the anxiety & work through them to finally get rid of them.....NO QUICK FIXES available IRL.

You have to hold onto what your wise mind says & not allow your emotional mind win & end up hurting you. You are working on a lot of things in therapy.....there is bound to be anxiety....& not all anxiety is bad....sometimes anxiety is good because it inspires us to work on those things we need to in order to really lessen the anxiety rather than just mask it....without the anxiety you wouldn't know that you have anything bothering you that needs to be worked on.

crazygirl, have you used alcohol in the past to get rid of or gain a feeling? do you drink to numb your feelings? i ask because this type of drinking indicates a problem drinker. that could lead you to alcoholism. you're young and have much to look forward to in your life. drinking won't make it better. when you stop drinking the problems that caused you to drink will still be there. it accomplishes nothing constuctive. do you see a T? if so why not discuss this with him. learning good coping skills will help you.
glad you posted about what's going on. i hope my comments may help.
