9yrs since my last alcoholic drink. Spent the first 2yrs in AA then entered therapy. Looking back if I could go back and tell myself on that first day sober that it will be ok I would do.

Its been a long journey, many ups, downs and round and rounds, but here I am.

Sometimes I held on by my finger tips, but I didn't take that drink. My drinking days included homelessness, job losses, assualts, that sort of life isn't mine today. The only thing that worked 100% in not drinking was just that, don't drink. Its one of the best things I've done in my life, to quit the drink.

Its is possible. I spent a lot of time trying to find the magic key to doing it. Trying to find a HP, reading this book and that book, and whilst I was doing all that I just didn't pick up that drink. The magic key was under my nose all that time, I just couldn't see it, blinded by myths on what keeps you sober and how to do it.

How did I get there? Think I finally realised the escapism fantasy stopped working. Each time I came too out of a bender/black out, I was back to what I was trying to escape, and the trying to escape became as painful as what I was trying to escape. Knew then there was no where else to go but find the courage to live a different way.
Thanks for this!

Congratulations, it's that first step of letting go and trying to live without substances, I hope to be able to celebrate a similar milestone someday.
