My first AA meeting is this Sunday at 7pm. Or maybe it's 8pm... not a good sign that I can't remember. My fiance and I are going together since we are both serving as each others clutch through getting sober. The only thing is we have to find someone to watch out five year old. He hasn't made efforts to seek a friend to help us out [he gets busy and forgetful and he is just a man after all .] Here is my list for preparing for Sunday night:
1. Ask a friend to take our daughter for one hour.
2. Avoid any thoughts leading to excuses to not go
3. Remember not to drink after meeting
4. Kick fiance's butt into gear and make sure he doesn't make excuses either.
He being Man can find the best excuses to wiggle out of something [lol]
5. Don't be late!
6. Be fashionably late?
7. One drink before to ease nerves??
8. No drinks before!!!!
9. Bring notebook to take notes??

See what I am putting myself through already and I haven't even showed up yet!
3 more days.. I am nervous and quite frankly a little pissed off I can't have a darn drink my first night home from work. I am working four nights this week - that is FOUR nights without a drink.

LOL -- I know the feeling. I was terrified before my first meeting too.

The only thing you need to really worry about is a sitter for your child. The rest is easy. But please don't be late for the meeting -- that's kind of disruptive. And DON'T drink before or after. You're defeating the purpose.

You can take notes if you want to but it's not necessary. It's not a "class." It's a meeting -- a sharing of experience, strength & hope. You will hear things VERY familiar to you -- things that have happened to YOU too. That's what makes you feel so comfortable at these meetings. So don't worry. You'll enjoy it. And you'll get a lot out of it, I'm sure.

Best of luck and let us know what happens, ok? Hugs, Lee

Don't give up! Some days you will get a lot out of a meeting and some days you will not. Keep going back no matter what! It works!
