I have been having really bad cravings as of late... But not for pot. I've been craving blood, again. I've only ever opened up to my girlfriend/exgirlfriend about this, and this morning we got in a fight and she was saying I was a freak for it... But everyone here has been so supportive and accepting... And I don't know where else to go about it... The cravings are getting really bad. I use to get the blood from when I cut myself, it was just sort of a bonus. But now that I've quit cutting, I had no source. My girlfriend/exgirlfriend has never let me get anything more than a few drops from her when the knife would slip in the kitchen or something. Now I'm finding out that she doesn't like the fact that I love the taste of blood. So I have no source any longer, and I almost feel like I'm going through withdrawl... I can't stop thinking about it lately. I've been pricking my finger to test my blood sugar, but its not enough to taste.. Am I really just a freak? Or is there anyone else dealing with this?

ive seen something similar on tv. i dont blame your girlfriend for not liking it... i think a lot of people would be freaked out by the blood thing. so to answer your question, no you are not a freak but it certainly isnt normal to crave blood.ive heard that craving raw meat can mean you need iron or that you have aggression built up.

im not sure where you could get a source of blood thats legal....
or moral....
and above all else,
i think you should find something else to be obsessed with.

This certainly is not a 'normal' thing to do or to 'crave' and I would hope that you're trying to deal with the cravings. Even tho AA deals with alcoholl, you can replace the word "booze" or the word "alcohol" in the book or in the meetings with blood, and still follow the 12 Steps. You need to FIGHT these cravings and stop this need for blood.

Do whatever you have to do to stop this. Like I said, this is not normal behavior and it must stop. Alcoholics will go to ANY LENGTHS to stay sober, and yoiu must too!

Best of luck and God bless. Hugs, Lee
Thanks for this!

I absolutely LOVE rare steak. I basicly just like it heated up, then to watch it kick one more time before I eat it. Lol. I'll look into the iron thing, though. Thank you!

Are you sure it is not a disorder of the physical sense -- have you been checked out by a physical doctor- you could be lacking nutrition and thus desiring blood.

i have been going to a physical doctor, but haven't mentioned the blood cravings for fear of the mental hospital again. But I probably should bring it up, huh?

i would think so- I know it is an odd thing to bring up-- I don't think you are a freak by the way, it is just out of the norm if you know what I mean. But it could be missing iron or something in your diet. a craving like that for the body that the body needs, could be "seen as addiction" in some sort.

That is unless you think you are a vampire- then idk what to go on with that-- those theories seem to be debatable as a whole.

I don't think I'm a vampire. When it first started, I thought about it. But I got over that after high school when I realized it was just a craving for blood, and not to hunt. I have been looking into a nutritionist, so I'll bring it up at my next appointment. Thank you for saying I'm not a freak, though. I've been feeling really outcasted lately at home...

well, if you dont want to be hospitalized, certainly dont tell them that you want human blood.

maybe just emphasize on the raw meat.

Thanks for this!

You already know my story, but I don't crave raw meat. When you do bring it up with doctors I would say you crave the metalic taste of raw meat. I have found others who have craved raw meat and most of them found it had to do with not enough iron or their body not absorbing it properly. I've already been tested for that so I know that isn't it for me. Some therapists would say that it is the association of feeling 'better' and blood in the past that makes a person crave blood (or other unusual item), but I don't understand how that would be a cause for those of us who have craved it at a very young age. I agree with the person who mentioned alcohol. Work the steps and do whatever it takes to stay 'sober'.
