Days of Healing, Days of Joy..........................................Dec. 6th

"I always feel better when I've been with my friend"...................Charlotte Y

Some people lift our hearts in a very special way. Maybe it is their tenderness, their humor, or their ability to listen attentively that attracts us. Our friendships may be based on many things - hobbies, jobs, community involvement, or any other activities that draw like-minded people together. Within our closest friendships, we probably find that the best of us and of our friends come together.

Friendships have a positive effect on self-esteem because they allow us to mirror back what we most appreciate in each other. This appreciation is not based on artificial encouragement, but rather on an honest reflection of the strengths of the friend. No wonder we feel so good when we're with our friends; they show us the best of who we are and encourage us to continue growth in positive directions. These healthy relationships allow us to move steadily away from the people-pleasing we once practiced. They give us a clear reflection of ourselves as joyful and lovable people.
