hello all! I have a few various issues I am trying to work on right now, addictions to random things such as
1.books and reading in general 2.alcohol 3.sex the last two things are not really huge issue but lately I have been leaning on them as distractions from my issues and I really need to find better ways to cope with my issues then this. I also have a bad, bad habit of compulsive lying so hopefully I can start working these issues and resolve them soon, or begin to...which I feel I have already started to try and do. a very good friend of mine is graciously offering to order some books on sexual addiction help..and I am looking into doing some 12 step programs to help with the drinking...its not a huge issue but I know how with my ocd can go that it very well could go in a bad direction if I don't watch it. can anyone recommend something similar for the compulsive lying I really want to fix this issue before it gets bad...in general

Hi Kala ~ Instead of books, I think a better way of coping would be to get into therapy. I don't really think self-help would be a good way to go for you. Your issues are pretty serious. and I do believe you need a good therapist.
There's nothing wrong with therapy. I've been in therapy twice in my life, and believe me, it turned my life around. The first time, I was so sick I ended up in a mental hospital and I saw my psychiatrist daily as well as having group therapy. After I got out I stayed with that psychiatrist for a year or so. I did well after that. Then years later, I had a "relapse" and saw a psychologist, who was awesome -- and I saw her for several months and she basically gave me back my self-esteem and my "power." Therapy can do awesome things, Kala and I strongly recommend it for you. Your issues are just too serious for any self-help books. Please find a good therapist, or ask your doctor to recommend one for you. I wish you the very best. God bless and please take care. Hugs, Lee ![]()

well actually the main reason i did not ask about therapy is because i am already seeing a therapist and talking to him.
these are just new issues that recently came up in the last few months. And for me going and doing self help work books, my regular weekly therapy as well as DBT support group its all working out well. i might be looking into possibly doing a 12 step program on the side as well. But i am going to therapy and my therapist likes the idea of me working on my issues with work books.

Fair enough. There are some good ones out there. As long as you have someone to check in with, which it sounds like you do.
