Hi. I am 50. Female. A professional. Married. One child out of the house. I have drank all my life to mask alot of pain as a single child from a verbally and emotionally abusive mother. I am bipolar and probably...well...for sure...should not be drinking while on medication. Sometimes I do not have a drink for 3 weeks and it does not bother me, I see a psychatrist. I love drinking my Pino! I do not get drunk every night but when I do it is because I think I am fine. Just spent $5,500.00 on a front tooth from a fall. Just gpt kicked out of my favourite pub because I mouthed off at a waitress. I have done alot of stupid things and ruined good relationships. I do not want to go to AA because God is not my thing . I don't want a saviour. I just want to stop this cycle I really need help. Surely there is another way besides God and AA. Thats why I.say...,One is too many, three is not enough. Thank you.

You might also try Women For Sobriety. It's a great program, and has a very active on-line community.

Well I knew one person that has Bipolar (without a doubt) and he took Lithium and other meds.

I saw him smoke Marijuana and personally could not notice any problems but when I saw him heavily intoxicated one night, he seemed EXTREMELY manic.

If you are having strong cravings for alcohol, personally I have found Naltrexone very helpful in many cases (but not all).

I don't like AA either. A general Councillor from a drug support agency may be able to help or a psychiatrist with a special interest in addiction, or a general psychologist.

Hi. Alcohol definatly triggers my manic episodes of bipolar and makes them worse. This is one major reason I have to stop drinking.
