Ive been sitting here tonight (sober) well i had three drinks earlier but that was hours ago to calm nerves from the night before.Anyway i was wondering did my depression cause my alcoholism or vice versa, before the alcohol by the way it was drugs and alcohol, but the drugs had to go as i nearly died 6 months ago.its just a thought i had and i cant tell maybe ive allways been depressed .

Alcohol is a depressant. But for someone to drink enough for alcoholism, wouldn't you think they would be somewhat dissatisfied with life first? So my answer is: probably both. My question is: does it matter?

Having 3 drinks to calm your nerves doesn't fit with being sober imo.

I hope you can take care of yourself better in the future. ((((hug))))

im glad you decided to go to bed, we all need our rest, right?

now i know you know that people probably tell you that alcohol is bad.....i mean it is, but are you willing to let it go?

maybe a T would work for you. who knows?
if you dont mind me asking why'd this start?(feeling down or something)

anyway i hope things start to look better, the after effect of acohol sucks(just another reason to say no) because you dont want to feel like crap the next day.

I think you may have done well considering former habits, I don't know. But I won't let you fool yourself thinking 3 drinks is sobriety. what comes first alcohol or depression? Hope you had a good night's sleep, and find a good day waiting for you.

One thing is for sure, if you continue to use drugs (unless prescribed and not abused) and alcohol in any amount, you will never find any answers.

No excuses, ever, because that's all they really are. Are you trying to sober up alone? 12 step programs are good. Been there, done that.

This is one situation where it is black or white - there is no room for grey when dealing with alcohol and drug addictions.

Not to say you can't start over. Every second is a chance to start over. Just keep starting over every time you slip.

IMO - the depression usually comes first, hence why some people use alcohol as their drug of choice to STOP the PAIN that comes from within.... drinking is merely the symptom of the disease - called: DEPRESSION.
