I'm just having the temptation to get drunk now/later in the day, so I'm wondering if anyone has done it too. I have drank the night before school and had a bit of a hangover once, but it honestly felt great! Another time, I tried to drink the leftover vodka from the night before, but I couldn't finish it. I can't handle liquor like I used to. Anyway...
I hate cravings. They're so uncontrollable and irrational even if I don't act on them.

I have but I don't recommend it as a pattern to get into.

I've had alcohol before class to get rid of social anxiety. I've been tempted to do it several other times. I'm not an addict though, is it okay that I responded?

This brings to mind the time me and my silly 17 year old self downed two bottles of pink champale followed by a piece of grape bubble yum before strutting into the front lobby of my high schol and smack dab into the principal his own damn self! ... Thankfully the bubble yum covered up the smell of the booze, but it was an interesting eye opener for sure.

I toadally avoid alcohol now. I'm 55 and have figured out it's best to just leave it alone since I come from a long line of alcohol addicts and abusers. Wish it was that easy for everyone, but statistics show otherwise unfortunately.

I should have responded earlier to this. Totally! Social anxiety and alcoholism tend to overlap anyways.

I understand that feeling. I've been there a lot recently. I've been on a drinking binge and have been hungover at work a lot lately but I haven't given in to drinking before/during work. But I haven't given in because there is a huge difference in the amount of trouble you would be in for being drunk vs just hungover. I wouldn't recommend it. I'm trying to follow my own advice too.

I used to drink before, during, and after work. This has been done at fast food jobs, as well as library positions. I would not advise it at all. You're more likely to get fired or drop out if you started doing this. AFTER work is fine.

When I was in high school I kept liquor in my locker. Usually some **** mix of whatever was at home: a coffee mug of a bunch of different stuff.
Pretty much all along for me, but especially when my drinking/using got really serious, I found I could not drink in the morning. First of all, I was too sick from the day/night before, and I'm not talking about 'hair of the dog' sick, I'm talking about hitchhike to the hospital and get a shot of Gravol in the *** so I can stop throwing up sick. Also, I managed (through the grace of something somewhere) to hold a job throughout my active addiction, and I could not drink or use before work because once I started I couldn't stop.
Everyone's pattern is different, and if there's one thing I learned, it's that the best way to tell if you have a problem with something is not by what you read in a book or by what other people tell you, but by the degree to which is wreaks havoc on your own life.

Thank you for your replies. I am curious though, will I be able to cut down drinking without completely stopping it? I mean, just enjoying 1-2 beers without having the need to go buy some more, or it will always cause me problems and dependancy and I have to stop completely?

...but does that justify drinking in the morning? Aren't there more effective and safe ways of managing social anxiety than drinking?

More effective for me? No.

No one said anything about it being justified.
