Yes. I've been on this forum for years and years and have never shared that I am an alcoholic.

Today is my 5th day sober. I've been okay physically but have experienced terrible mood swings and sadness.

The weekend will be hard.

Sit a while with me.

Thanks for sharing that. There are many like you (like me) but who don't quite have enough strength yet to give it up completely. Stay strong.

Hi Sabrina,
Congratulations on five days of sobriety! For an alcoholic five days without a drink can seem like a lifetime. Just don't drink today and check back tomorrow.
Thanks for this!

I made it through Friday. It really wasn't that bad. I'm feeling stronger every day. I am so totally determined to stick with this.

Way to go Sabrina, both on admitting you're an alcoholic, that's hard, and making it through 5 days sober. That's really tough.

Do you have any IRL support for stopping drinking. I found I needed IRL support to help keep me on track. Some people find that support in AA, which helped me a lot when I first got sober. I no longer go to AA, as I've found the program Women For Sobriety fits better with my personal beliefs, but AA can be a really good starting point.

Cheering for you.

I am so happy for you. When I was five-days sober, I couldn't imagine being five months sober. But, I just telling myself "Get through this day!" Now I am 13-years sober and feel great. Sobriety gave me a wonderful life that I would never have if I stayed a slave to alcohol.

Keep checking in Sabrina. Sending you best wishes.

Thank you so much. Saturday evening passed uneventfully. I have terrific tooth pain so I'm distracted. I see an end in sight. Even after only a week. I feel liberated. It is nice remembering going to bed. It is nice not have my husband so irritated with me.

Good for you Sabrina! All you have to do is stay sober TODAY. You can think about tomorrow when you get there!

Best wishes!

I'm doing well. The weekend passed by with no trouble. I found myself thinking of drinking a lot but had no compulsion or physical desire to drink whatsoever.

I must say that I am not missing alcohol in a physical way, not by taste or anything. All I miss is the high and the couple of hours sleep.

I really believe I won't go back. I know it is only day 8 today but I feel strong and determined, and liberated.

I'm a recovering alcoholic & I think it's great that you're on day 8 & feeling motivated. Don't forget, however, that alcoholism is probably the only disease that'll lie to you. My history proves that. I've been in & out of AA a few times over the past 35 years. I don't say that to preach...just to give perspective about how I experienced the disease. I bought into the lie that I could drink like a "normal person."

emgreen is spot on. Alcoholism is a disease that convinces you that you don't have a disease.

AA got me sober after I tried everything else to stop drinking. It was a last resort for me. I still attend meetings regularly. It helps with my stinking thinking.

I'm feeling great and positive. Day 10! This (for me) was easier than I thought. I think I had a harder time giving up smoking 9 years ago.
