I posted this in General, but wanted to share it here as well, since this forum is instrumental in my recovery. MS Update

Sooooo, I saw the neurologist today. He sees me about every 3 months now and checks reflexes for nerve function etc. Last time I saw him, he wasn't happy with one of my reflexes and based on what I was telling him about what was going on with me, he said it seemed like there was more spinal chord activity, which means more lesions caused from the MS attacking my nerve lining. So that wasn't a good report at my last checkup. Then I saw him again because I was extremely depressed. He tried getting me on antidepressants but the insurance denied them. I threw myself back into the steps and mentally have improved.

Physically I've still be extremely tired, periods of exaustion hitting when I least expect them to. HOWEVER.....today at the appointment, when he checked my reflexes and movement, there was IMPROVEMENT. One of the reflexes that showed major spinal chord activity last time is working properly now. SO THIS MEANS TREATMENT IS WORKING....this means I'm improving.....this means the lesions are HEALING.

This is HUGE news. Its hit and miss with MS. They never know how one will react to treatment. They never know if initial injury will heal. In a lot of patients it doesn't. But mine HAVE. I have to believe that its more than just the treatment. I have to believe its all the love and support and prayers I get. I have to believe its partly my good attitude and positivity, mixed with honesty in how I'm feeling and diligence in working the steps and staying sober.

WoW.....this is the best news I've received in nearly a year pertaining to my MS. I am so happy today....I just had to share!!!!!!

I wasn't aware you have MS. I don't know that much about it but it sure sounds like you've got a great doctor and are on the right track. Yipee!! I'm really happy for you, and I hope things continue to go your way.

Rayna,

That's great - I'm so happy for you. I was watching Dr. Phil today and there was a woman on it who has MS but has done all kinds of amazing things since being diagnosed, including havving twins. I'd encourage you to read up as much as you can on the disease and actively participate in your treatment with your doctors. I've found doing that really helpful with my depression, which I know is way less serious than what you're going through.

Keep it up.

Christine!!! Welcome to PC!!!!

Lets talk......I'm happy to meet someone else with MS. Not that I'm happy you were diagnosed......you know what I mean. MS Update

8 months ago.....wow. How were you diagnosed? I was diagnosed with optic neuritis, lost the vision in my right eye, and they went from there. Did an MRI and got the official diagnosis.

Anyway, its wonderful to meet you and I'm so glad you found us!

3 months after the birth of my second daughter (born with multiple birth defects) I got optic neuritis in my left eye. Blurred vision, pain with movement. Never in a million years did I think of MS. I thought my vision was getting bad bc of my constant internet use researching my daughters issues. So off to the eye doctor and was told "it could be nothing, it could be Lymes or MS" WOW!!! Im 25 this cant be happening!!! So onto primary doc then to neurologist. MRI showed only one leision, thats good I guess. Spinal tap gae official diagnosis. Im taking Rebif. Are you on any injections? Have you heard of the Swank MS diet? I am thinking of trying it. Tough and strict diet but seems to have positive effects. The one episode of optic neuritis is all I have experienced and it cleared up completely without steriods.

Really???? Wow.....I did 3 days of intervenous steroids at onset and my vision still hasn't come back. I take BetaSeron. Fun stuff.....NOT lol. I saw an opthamologist on call with the ER who diagnosed the optic neuritis and said MS.....I was 27 at the time. Yeah....too young. Life has been sooo hard in the last year, getting adjusted, the constant waves of exaustion, weakness, heavy limbs. But at least I got the good report with my neuro last time. The heat is definitely starting to affect me though.

Do you work? I haven't worked. Looking for something part-time right now that I can handle. I haven't heard of the diet. Have you heard of the bee sting therapy?

Anyway....probably shouldn't discuss this in the alcohol forum, but this is my own thread so I guess I can hijack it lol.

go to ABC.com and look at the work from home companies. there is a company called Alpine that hires people who are good with computers. you could probably find several opportunities there. ABC verifies that all are legit and on the level. pat

Yes of course you can "hijack" your own thread MS Update Just glad you made the subject line you did, so I found it. I don't know if you remember, but I have myelopathy (1 lesion) MS Update Same symptoms as MS... I understand how you and Christine can be friends, since the treatment and meds you go through will be similar. I can't tolerate anything along those lines MS Update

I'm glad the treatment is having postive effects for you (((Rayna)))
