I always thought of myself to be the type that would never get addicted to anything. That I could always stop whatever I was doing, whenever I wanted to. Until I started smoking... I didn't even know I was addicted until just about a few hours ago.. Now, granted, I don't smoke heavily or often. I have only smoked about 4 packs of cigarettes this whole time. But the way the thought of lighting one up consumes my mind worries me.. I dont think I'm addicted to smoking tobacco, I think im addicted to smoking in general..I think I need help

Yes, cigarettes are quite addictive- over the years they've added more ingredients that are hamrful, but also as a way to keep people addicted. Even though I quit smoking like 3 years ago, on a handful of occasions I've found myself bumming cigarettes- usually when I've been drinking. I even bought a pack that lasted me for a year- smoking rarely- which I hear is actually worse- I heard recently that once you open a pack of cigarettes- the longer it goes without being smoked, the more carcinogenic it is. So finally, a little over a week ago I bought myself a vape pen and tobacco oil- at least this way I'm not smoking if I get the urge . . . .

I quit smoking in March and used vaping (which I'm still doing). Despite all the FUD and misinformation out there about vaping, it's at least 95% safer than smoking. Recently England decided to promote vaping for smoking cessation too.

Yes, cigarettes are evil. I gave up for the third time some 8 or 9 years ago. I have become a terrible ex-smoker. I cannot handle the smell, the look, the anything about smoking and cigarettes. It is painful going for a walk, or walking anywhere as I have to look at the ground the whole time to see if there are any cigarette butts. I just cannot step on them. I have thrown away a pair of shoes for doing that before.

I had an immensely hard time giving up (the second time round). I found it harder than giving up drinking, and that was also a huge problem.

My Mom got lung cancer 5 years after giving up smoking. Fortunately she had a third of her lung removed and is now cancer free. Not everyone will be so lucky.

I wish anyone trying or desiring to give up much strength as it really is a very hard thing to do.
