It's time that I say good-bye to MJ in order to progress in life. I'm tired of the de-motivational and de-energizing tactics that it plays on me. Not to mention mood disturbances have abruptly gotten worse. This is my second day and the withdrawals are bearable. I've quit pot twice already and was probably the easiest addiction to break, BUT, the symptoms and sensations are very real.

There is this feeling of grouped-up nervous energy in my chest and it always gets worse at night. I'm trying to push thru tho.

I found a link on Reddit of a user jotting down 200 benefits of quitting pot. Have a look.

Mood Stabilizers - Tegretol, Depakote, Neurontin
Other - Buspar, Xanax

Thank you for this post and your link... I too struggle with addiction to marijuana and that list reminds me of all the things that I tend to forget when I am indulging my addiction... One thing I am noticing more lately is I think it is effecting my moods with more harm than good.. as I have been a long time smoker... I am noticing more panic attack like symptoms at times...maybe that is somewhat environmental too, or a bad strain, who knows?? ...Anyway ...I do agree with you, it can at times definitley affect moods and make us less motivated...and if you/we have a MI as well or any mood disorders ...I am told it can do more harm than good.... Even if at times if we try to convince ourselves otherwise... I wish you and all of us the best, with the struggle with this internal conflict that we share....

Quitting pot is hard. I've only smoked it a couple of times 20 years ago, when I discovered that I'm allergic to it - yes really, but I've been in rehab with people trying to quit, and they do go through a very real withdrawal.

I've also known people who have developed really bad paranoia after long term use.

Way to go for quitting.

I won't be able to smoke for a 7 day period when I visit home in just over a week. It's going to be HARD! But I'm wondering if I can use it as a forced sobriety kick start. I did manage to make it through 5 days once before but I had Valium to help me relax, eat & sleep, this time I won't. I also started smoking the moment I got home. I don't know why I'm having so much difficulty other than my partner also smokes daily & isn't willing to stop, it's always available to me & I'm not working atm.

Congrats. I know I need to quit smoking, or at the very least cut way back, but it's hard. My bf smokes all the time, so it's always around me, not to mention I really don't even want to stop. I'm waiting to make any real decisions until after I get my depression under control.

Hi dvious, during the many years of smoking pot, I genuinely believed that it helped placate my reoccurring symptoms of certain MI. In order to make change it is absolutely essential to displace what is holding you back. A bad strain/unhealthy weed can definitely exacerbate symptoms a lot more forcefully -- when I had access to medicinal MJ, I felt the positive and meant-to-be effects of the high but when I went to back to my old dealer to supplement his products again when I was out, on the high I felt hot, bothered and my thoughts were racing.

I sincerely wish you pave your own path to substitute pot for sincere happiness. I am pushing through and noticed a plethora of effects and work is much more smooth and much more fun to do. I won't tell you to quit, but I'll tell you that not quitting will damage your psyche far more with the years to come and the abstinence of pot will be a prolonged but bearable battle.

Agreed, I've seen the detrimental effects of weed first-hand when I was visiting certain Addiction & AOD centers in my local city. Yes, the paranoia after long-term use can be extremely tough to deal with but over a long period of time, most deluded states wear off. Paranoia seems to affect many (ir)regular users. During the last few periods of me smoking it, it seems to potentiate my hypersensitivity of perception which always tends to be a drivel of anxious and problematic/non-existential thoughts. It felt "too" much. Another reason why I had to say goodbye to the herb.

Wander, I want you to keep me updated on your brave BUT bearable 7 day battle. Watch your taste buds, senses and wellbeing re-generate. The cravings for weed can be sneaky but as long as they are counteracted by good thought and some benzos -- I think I'm happy to invest faith in your spiritual journey. Good luck.

Being surrounded by pot users is always a major setback in one's spiritual progression. I surrogated my surroundings for neuro-stimulating environments, meaning that my brain is processing a different kind of perception and "high" itself. This can be manifested in different ways but if you do cut back -- perhaps you'll feel a lightly alleviated outlook on how daily proclivities are going that it will motivate you to abstain from it for some while. Then again, I'm not your mentor -- pave your own spiritual path and when you do quit, you'll quit. Simple.
