i have been going back and forth on wether i can commit enough to quit smoking pot. and four days ago i decided that it is time for me to quit smoking. and today is my fourth day sober. it has been a living hell...everyone always says its the first three days that are the worst and then its a piece of cake from there on out. but i am having the hardest time. im driving myself crazy. im in high school so im completely exposed to pot everyday. and that makes it harder. does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to keep myself from obsessing on this?

It really helps to not do it alone.

I commend you on this decision, its huge!!! I would look for some support, either other people your age who have quit or find a Narcotics Anonymous meeting or talk to a school councelor or a therapist. Its much easier to do it will help.

Best of luck,

Hi, welldone on the 4 days! I got loads of expereince in going up walls, abstaining and etc, What i do is get an abstinence partner, warn her I'll need to bombard her with texts, every time I want to act out, I text her instead, evenif to say 11;;1£££ ****)++!`` I want to ac tout and commit to do that instead of act out for, say one weak and maybe ring every night just for 2 mins, check in you feelings, then after a week, you can decide again, do you want more sobriety, or do you want to go back, it really is a genuine decision for you to make.

Good luck, keep us posted how it goes. ps, my addiction wasnt to substances, something one doesnt really mention in polite company, so, well................

Good for you. IRL support is really important so like Raynaadi said - maybe try talking to a school councilor or trying NA. Feel free to post lots here too.

Good luck.

One thing that was important for me to stay sober was to keep my mind on positive things--instead of dreaming or obsessing about drugs I needed to be focused on recovery. Really, to get my mind to think about anything but the drugs. One way I did that was to do a lot of reading about recovery and personal growth. Things that occupied my mind and kept me focused on recovery.

Dancer.....yyyaaaayyy! You can do it. Just don't put yourself in places that it's easy to light up. Stay away from where you know it's lit!

You are really doing a great thing for yourself. I admire your strength. Some people don't think it's hard....they just blow it off....."pot, no way....that's easy to deal with". Well, I know it's hard.....the smell of it still attracts me and I'm 50! belle

My boyfriend's drug of choice was pot. He hasn't used in almost 10 years, but he still has issues if he smells it or sees on tv. He just doesn't give into it.

My drug of choice was alcohol and I still sometimes salivate when I see it on tv. It always reminds me though that I'm sober and don't touch it anymore.

Pot, alcohol, pills etc.....we can get addicted to any of it and any of it is hard to come off of. I don't think its easy for anyone to just walk away, no matter what the addiction is, without some sort of help.

I admire you for this Damaj, keep it up, you CAN do it!!!!

seconds everything Rayna says - you can do this, even though it's hard. When I was in treatment - it was a general addictions program, not just alcohol, the Dr. said Pot was one of the hardest things to come off of because it's stored in your fat and so stays in your system longer. Good for you for coming this far and I know you can do it.
