I need to set the record straight right here, right now. My granny on my mum's side did not suffer from a form of munchausin syndrome. I have thought long and hard and I believe I have seen through my error. My granny simply turned to alcohol because she felt lonely. My grandad was in the Navy and they moved around and back when my mum and her brother were born times were different so she had to stay at home and look after them.
I think she found no incentive to keep herself well because she was so well taken care of the first once or twice. She did not drink to get Ill and gain attention like I may have thought. She yearned for her old life saying quite openly that she had stayed in England but my grandad wanted to come where I live to this day. So she was lonely.
My granny took early retirement due to diabetes. She said she wished she had went back after she started feeling better after being diagnosed. She was an intelligent lady and she wanted to go to university to be a chemist. She did the cryptic crosswords and that deserves credit. It was my granny maybe more than my grandad that encourage me to read in retrospect. She was musical and played the organ. She could shuffle cards like no ones business when we played rummy!
