Hi, guys, I'm giving visiting my old rehab facility in a couple of days to give a talk to the patients their. I want to make sure my talk is helpful and brings hope. What would you want to hear in such a speech, if you were in such an audience?

I'd personally like to hear about your own experience with addiction.

I'd definitely want to hear that once you get over the difficult part at the start, it becomes like second nature after a long enough time! Also I would like to hear about how fulfilling life is sober, and how you can have actual fun without the drugs/alcohol! Best of luck on your speech, makes me happy that you've gotten to the place where you can help others who are going down the same path!

I second the opinion on what you did to get through early sobriety, especially if you did things other than the standard AA attend meetings - sorry don't know if you use 12 steps or not, I don't. What you do now for fun. Unexpected ways your life got better. Things you expected to be easy that were hard. If you had a gap in your employment history due to your use, how'd you get back to work, if you did.
Good luck with the speech. splitimage |
