well, I got stood up by my boyfriend today. Yesterday was my bday and we were going to go out and eat Mexican tonite. Instead, the intense temptation of parades and booze drew him to the French Quarter. And i was forgotten.
My parents talked me into going out to eat with them at a local place that just opened back up today. Prior to the storm a load of us would all meet there once or twice a month to eat. We were a loud bunch. Tonite, just us three, it was quiet. Ralph, came to the table to get our drink order and remembered us from before the storm. I order a sprite and my parents got themselves each a Coors. Ralph throws his arms in the air and hollars, 'Oh my lord, what dat storm done did to you bae'. Well everyone around us is leaning their ear closer to hear whats going on at our table. I just looked at him and said im not drinking tonite. I want a sprite. He threw a hissy fit over me drinking a sprite. I don't think i'll be going there to eat if Ralph is working. It did bring the reasoning of me not drinking anymore to the forefront with my parents. They both started asking questions and i was honest and told them why. They promised to not bring any type of booze around me and if they do bring any into the house, It will be hidden well. Now, that wine rack, that still aint going no where. My mom said she'll just hide the wine opener. I laughed and said if i want it that bad, i'll still get the cork out of it. So, i think what she's going to do is put empty bottles in the rack and the full bottles hidden somewhere in the house. They told me how much they've worried about me with the drinking i've done. I do recall my mom quite often calling me a lush. So sweet of her. But the truth, no longer. ...so, that's how my evening went.

Oh wow. That really sucks!
It seems like you learned stuff about yourself though and you stood up for yourself and stuck to your guns. You faced adversity and made it!!! I'm so proud and happy for you!!! I mean happy about the sobriety, not happy for you that you had a bad night. Ugh I'm tired, I'm not making any sense.

Naw its cool ((((Rayna)))))
What sucked about it the most was when i looked around and saw every single person in there drinking a freaking beer except the kiddies. And they probably had root beer at that. But its' alright.

Hey Chal,
Totally can identify where you are coimng from. Friday - friends started emailing me asking me if I was going out...................... and when I responded "no" think I'm gonna lay off of the bars for awhile...................I got a myriad of unique responses. I am sorry that your boyfriend stood you up; I hope that he will become more supportive in the future. Hopefully your sobriety will become contagious. ![]() By the way Happy Birthday!!!!!!! Sounds like your parents are supportive. Your mom sounds like mine. She loves me and won't say much but when I decided to give up the bottle she has been quietly, humorously, and not overly supportive. My dad simply said, "I am very proud of you young lady". I want you to know that I am sincerely floored by your ability to handle that situation very well with the sprite. And to find out you live in Party Central - what an accomplishment you have made! AN INCREDIBLE ACCOMPLISHMENT! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! WOW!

Chalm,
Belated happy birthday, and well done on how you handled the waiter. It sounds like you were able to have a good (honest) talk with your parents - that's important. Hopefully they'll really be supportive of your recovery. I'm sorry that your boyfreind stood you up, that sucks. -splitimage |

I'm so very sorry your bf stood you up. What a bummer! I'm so glad you went out to eat with your parents. Ralph the waiter sounds like quite a character and he does sound as if he thinks a lot of you. I'm so proud of you for sticking with Sprite. When I was in college I used to go with my friends to the local bar/pizza place and I would be the one and only person in the place who ordered a Pepsi. I've been laughed at more than once by a bartender. That was fine by me. Anyway, I'm really proud of you, Chalm. Hugs, Jan ![]()

Chalm, happy belated birthday.
Sounds like you're doing what you have to do. Kudos. And way to be honest with the 'rents. That can be hard to do so it takes guts. Cyran0

((((((Star))))))
(((((Jan)))))))) (((((Split))))))) and (((Cy))))))) Thank ya'll for the bday wish. And for your encourgement and wise words. Yeah, Ralph is a kick. I love it when he flirts with my dad. I swear one time he made my aunt pee in her pants he was so funny. And well, my boyfriend. I'm gonna get his butt back. This weekend is THE WEEKEND to be down in the French Quarter. And i know exactly what he's doing. Last walk across the ferry is at midnight. So at least i know he's at home or around the corner at the Point with the gang. My parents seem to be taken more of an interest in me these past few weeks. There are being a little bit more understanding. I was reading the book my t has me reading earlier this evening. My mom walked in asked about it. She wants it when i'm finished. I even think she may go on over to the Family Center and see about seeing a counsler too. I really wish that she would. She's almost as bad as i am. But little Bayou is helping us all out some. He's a little terror on four paws. He likes to bite toes.

LOL. Yeah. lol. I dont even wanna picture what a hair gut would look like.
We don't have parades on Fat Tuesday in St Bernard anymore. You have to go to New Orleans or Metairie for those all day parades. So my neighborhood was sooo quiet today. You could hear all the mice running around. lol
