ok folk I'm off to Berlin tomorrow.
I have the list of English speaking meetings in Berlin - there's one every day. I'm taking my antabuse, and on my doctor's advice am upping my dosage. I still want to drink while I'm there, but am 99% certain I won't because I have too much invested in getting healthy and sober. I know I can do this. Could just use some encouragement to do the right thing. --splitimage |

If you drink,,you will not only feel the physical pangs of detox as your liver filters the complex sugars but..
You will feel shame,,,and the terrible reality of having to begin again.. That is said to be the worst of all,,,the shame...and none I have ever heard report of such an expereince have ever said it was worth it... Have fun splitimage,,enjoy your adventure but hold close the gift you have been given.. You can do this...and will be better for it.. Lenny __________________ I have only one conclusion,,and that is things change too quickly for me to draw them.... Sobriety date...Halloween 1989. I was plucked from hell...and treat this gift as if it is the only one... |

Imagine the following two scenarios: 1) You come home from Germany. The first few days went well, but you decided that you "deserve" one beer, since, after all, you are in Europe! That one beer turned into many beers, and the second half of your vacation is a bit of a blur. You arrive home ashamed, having to admit to your doctors, your AA group, yourself what you've done. You have to start over. Your mind is full of "what if"s - what if I had just resisted that one beer? 2) You come home from Germany. The trip was wonderful. You were tempted a couple of times to have a beer, but reminded yourself of the truth of the first step: "I am powerless over alcohol". You have vivid, sober memories of a wonderful trip to Europe. You are able to tell your doctors, your AA group, and yourself "I did it!!". Which scenario do you want? You have a choice. I am rooting for you with all my might!! |

You'll do the right thing. I think I want to hear about all the cool meetings over there and if they differ from ones you've attended here in Canada.
One day at a time, but I'm sure you can do this. I had a friend who went overseas to Europe ... he didn't drink while he was there, even though he was so tempted... I know you can do it. Have fun!! __________________ |

True story. I know someone who took antabuse and drank - he went to the ER because he was so sick - he thought he was dying. It didn't even occur to him that this was the antabuse affecting him. It makes you REALLY sick. Please don't drink.
And, heck - you are SO blessed to be able to travel the world when so many people don't have a roof over their head. Think about your blessings. Don't waste the joys you've been given by drinking. Slippers |

Having just come back from Europe I can attest to the fact that the drinking over there is highly overrated
(((((((((((((((( splitimage ))))))))))))))) You know in your heart and soul what it is you have to do. We are here rooting for you and have faith in your ability to be able to self talk and get through each and every minute in a way that will make you proud. I hope you have the most wonderful time on your trip. Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back! sabby |
