There are no Adult Children meetings where I live. My sister, who lives in another city, has been attending one and claims it's the answer to so many of our problems. I Googled it to learn more and that brought me here.

I have always suffered from depression and suicidal ideation. I'm not sure if I have histrionic personality disorder or if it is all just archaic coping skills I learned from growing up in an alcoholic family. I listed it as one of my issues anyway.

My mother had narcissistic personality disorder as well as alcoholism, and she smoked a carton of cigarettes a day (no exaggeration), 10 regular and 10 menthol. She hardly ever breathed air. She couldn't shop in a grocery store or go to the movies or basically leave the house because she chain-smoked all day long, and would get up at night to smoke. My parents owned a 7-11 so her habit was probably compounded by a large discount on tobacco products

I don't know what I'm looking for here, my sister, says there are others who understand and have advice for getting over the past.

I'm open to hearing anything so please don't be shy if you communicate with me. Thank you.
Hugs from:
Sabrina

(((Welcome Kat)))),

It sounds like your mother had a huge void that she never could seem to fill somehow. I am so sorry that you grew up with this scenario, it is no wonder it has affected you profoundly too.

Yes, sharing your history with others who grew up around "alcoholism" will be so helpful for you, you are not alone with this challenge either.

(((Welcoming Hugs)))
