Havent seen my father for 19 years now, and not missing him at all. Actually, years ago had nightmares, consisting of being forced to go back home. Actually, I think he almost managed to destroy me for life; unfortunately, as much as I hate him, I also have some of his destructive traits, even though I don't drink.
How did you, if you did, got free of this? I was very successful in escaping physically, but not mentally. I mean escaping that violent place which was your family home. I may have nightmares tonight again, after posting here. |

i cut off my destructive family. the only answer to getting rid of the damage is therapy. CBT specifically i believe.

I cut them off physically, and I only miss one of my sisters, who was able to be honest about situations, and also tried to rebel, I loved her for that. Respected, rather, should I say. There was not much love in that home. Nobody in my family could cope well, my father managed to terrorise all of us.

Hi dissociative.
I don't drink either but the issues of coming from an alcohlic family are sooo deep and so complex they go way beyond just getting drunk. it's really hard to get ones head around the whole thing. What traits do you feel are haunting you? |

Mainly anger management, dissociations, and trust. Plus flashbacks, or whatever it is. Plenty of issues actually.
