Is this possible? It only began 4 months ago. Before that, I had no problem eating.
I had weight loss surgery on feb 19th of this year. I had the gastric sleeve. I've lost a lot of weight. I go days without eating and then when I try to eat, sometimes food just touching my tongue makes me gag instantly but that happens even with pills, so maybe that's something else. But when I do eat, I barely eat because I get nauseated and my stomach starts turning.

But I've also had a major stressor recently. I left a relationship of 5 and a half years and had to move back home with my parents, sister, niece and nephew. It's incredibly stressful just living there. If my boyfriend didn't let me spend as much time as he does, letting me sleep over, I would have lost my mind right now. I barely get sleep over there and everyone is constantly yelling and fighting and everything is always wrong. That's why I moved out the day I turned 17 because in my state, you're considered an adult at 17 so they couldn't stop me. I'm now 23 (22 when I moved home) and haven't lived at home since I was 16. Could it be the stress?

Hi A. it definitely could be the stressors, there are many you mentioned. A therapist could help sort these things out.

Be careful, it is good you have lost weight, but if you are not eating it creates more stress. the body turns to survival mode and you could become under weight. The brain requires protein every 24 hours or it starts to take protein by breaking down muscle.

try plain yogurt and see if you tolerate that. you have been on a fast and need to reintroduce foods selectively and carefully.

You really need to talk to your surgeon.

My surgeon moved to a completely different hospital. I don't even know if he would see me. I never had any follow up appointments with him.

I've been looking at the very few appetite stimulant prescriptions but they all have side effects unlike the thc pill but I feel weird specifically asking for that even though it's just because it has the least of the side effects id want to deal with.

Yes, it's a thing. Two things pop instantly to mind.

1) This is how my eating disorder began. Not liking food anymore, not enjoying the taste, sudden loss of appetite, etc. Of course, my situation was entirely different. I hadn't just had surgery. While your situation could be the same, it is best to rule out other possible things (such as side effects). Stress can be a trigger for eating disorders, but loss of appetite can also be a symptom of stress.

2) Anorexia is a symptom as well as a disorder. So, yes, it can be a side effect of medication or stress. It sounds like you do have a lot of stress in your life. Many people, when under stress, do lose their appetite. The difference between them and those of us with eating disorders is that they usually reach a point where they eat to survive. Whereas someone with anorexia may reach that point, but it will cause them intense anxiety. If that makes sense? Many medications can cause loss of appetite. It could, even, be related to the surgery.

The best thing to do is speak to someone. I am really, really worried that you had no follow up appointments. From what I've heard, it's generally best to after a surgery such as the one you had - for counselling and to check on overall wellness/health of the patient. I would try to get in contact with the surgeon, and if you can't, find someone else to speak with.

Have you tried Megace? I've used it and it really helps. Get the pill form though. The liquid tastes like Pine Sol.

I haven't tried any stimulants for that.

But could if still be anorexia simply because I don't have any hunger hormones telling my body when I'm hungry anymore?
