Ahhh a moment of clarity Baltazar?
Or, perhaps, is there a bit of a psychopath in each of us???

I don't know if I'm a sociopath but I do know that I have some MAJOR issues.

(And I'm not even PMS right now)

I think I may be a bit of a psychopath myself .....with fleeting thoughts of getting revenge on my nieghbor down the street.

but nicely done you must admit, turning the thread full circle from why are women attracted to sociopaths to sociopaths ...hmm would that be a typically sociopathic thing to do?

and i agree with everyone - charm, and the ability to sell themselves to you - or at least the current version - they give you what you need and it fills their ego to have you on a string ....until the string tightens and you realise its not a bow for your hair but a leash he's attaching to you.

I have had one place his hands on my neck and say he could kill me - i to played along and cooly and calmly replied that sure he could - but logistically where we were was not a good place - he agreed...

I had to interact more wiht him because he was married to my sister - and he did for a few more times when the leash was not working on my sister try the fear approach - it was as if he was going through a list ... hmmm charm - tick - ok thats out now
lies galore - too many to keep track of.....
fear - tick - > leading to dependance.....

but ultimately leading to his defeat...so far.......

his family was his posession that was all - his front to the world - of no value other than that.

oops i just tok us back to a seriuos place - sorry

wandered in and there i was back in the mine field lol

P7 flies up into a tree and waits to see if anyone wil follow

hmmm and maybe we are the psychopaths trying out our masks here it this forum .... have you thought of that Myers lol

Very cool post Phoenix. No need to be sorry.

My father is a sociopath - textbook. He really is one and has no remorse (or very little) over the pain he has put myself, my brother and my mother through. In his eyes he has been a hero and we should be grateful that he even gave us a moment of his time. He really feels that way.

Because of him my romantic relationships were always unbalanced. I assumed men would treat me the way he did and became too sensitive to even the smallest indication of being hurt or abandoned. It made me clingly, needy and unable to give of myself like an adult. I am an adult woman now (don't let the name Baltazar fool you...long story.)

So I became very borderline as a result and now have to spend the rest of my life fixing myself. Being a mature, loving, adult is my goal.

And I'm only at the very beginning. My heart bleeds for passion but I am only able to handle safety. But it could be worse.
Thanks for this!

Nods yep same as my dad and my sisters husband - i told my BIL once that he walked like the world owed him a living lol - it was true and he didnt like it - i think he diodnt like that i had seen behind his mask.

I can relate - except instead of being clingy i decided to cut them out before they could cut me out (men that is ) one bad relationship and i decided that i couldnt be trusted to pick the right person (or have thenm pick me) - thats why im still single lol

that would be nice - i wish us both luck wiht that.

safety is a good place to start

I wouldn't be surprised. I know I'm not the only psychopath here. The others just prefer to stay hidden.

No I have a T-Shirt that says "Kiss Me I'm a Psychopath." I wear it to family reunions...nobody ever asks me to help clean up.

Ok, I know I am going seriously off topic here from current trends but curiosity gets me again... For the psychopaths both in and closeted... What are your favorite TV shows? (Do we have to identify ourselves as "closet psychopath", "psychopath" and "visitor" to do an unofficial poll?)

1. NCIS... Gibbs and Ziva are just hot
2. The Mentalist
3. Criminal minds

Does my choice in evening viewing make me more or less likely to date a psychopath?Just in case we have wandered too far off the path

My son I believe is one, at the moment he resides in a prison cell and is quite happy with things as they stand as he got given alot less time than he deserves. I love him with no strings attached.

He has hurt me and my family greatly, he is now nearly 21 and I too am happy he is inside as we all get a break from him.

He takes does not give. Is very clever and an extreamly tidy person. A worker (when he is free to work) however feels the world is his for the taking and I am scared he will one day meet a girl and have a child.

As a mother what can I do ? Should I point out to him what he is ? Or let him just live his life and risk the damage he will cause others ?

Dexter is a "nice" psychopath. He only kills bad people and always brings donuts for everyone at work.

Wow, this is a hard one. It's good he is in prison so he cannot harm anyone. And I bet women are sending him emails for romance. Women can be strange. So I understand your fear about him procreating.

Right now I don't think there is much you can do for him. Protect yourself and the rest of your family. Hugs to you

Having a family member who is a psychopath is a difficult place to be in. As Baltazar said, the most important thing is to protect you and your family. As far as Keeping others safe from him, I am afraid it is beyond your capabilities, if he is an adult as I assume.
I know this is going to sound crazy but be careful about warning people he decides to lure in. Often it backfires. He has made himself (seem) the embodyment of their dreams. To challenge him is to challenge the validity of their dreams. Holding on to a dream will be far more important to them than listening to you... So... When warned many people will actually draw closer to a psychopath defending and protecting them because in essence they are defending their dreams.
For the psychopth this is great! you have unintentionally pushed the person they have lured further into their spell. If you continue to push you will break the relationship you have with the person they are luring... This then increases the isolation of the lure and again makes their bond to the psychopath stronger.
One of the benefits of being an "out" psychopath is people are much more likely to fall into this trap. The psychopath gets SO much out of it and never had to lift a finger!
