I recently joined this site and I've noticed that this subforum is not very active.
I was diagnosed with AsPD about 5 years ago. I also have a large number of psychopathic traits. I'd like to discuss my diagnosis with others here who either have AsPD themselves (and possibly psychopathy) or are interested in it, but it seems that there is hardly anyone here to discuss it with. Rather than reviving old discussions, I'm wondering what else we could discuss that hasn't been talked about already in relation to this topic. Here are a few questions I have in mind for you all (please explain your answers when responding). I'm hoping the answers to these might lead to more questions and thus, more activity on this subforum. It will also help me get to know some of you here and why you're here: Were you diagnosed with AsPD? If yes, do you believe the diagnosis was accurate? When were you diagnosed with AsPD and how are the traits of it currently impacting your life? Do you have any other mental health issues that are co-existing with your AsPD diagnosis? If yes, what are they? Have you ever been clinically tested for psychopathy (interviewed and brain-scanned etc)? If yes, what is your score on the PCL-R? If no, what do you think you would score on it if you were clinically tested? If you suspect you have psychopathy and/or AsPD (while every psychopath has AsPD, not everyone with AsPD is a psychopath), but have not been clinically diagnosed with either, what makes you suspect you have it? If you do not have AsPD or psychopathy, what is your interest in the subject? If you can think of any other questions, feel free to add them in your reply. |

I was hoping someone would've responded to your post by now as I am interested in learning more about ASPD from folks that may actually have it. I suspect that a few people in my life may have undiagnosed ASPD and I worry about their futures.
If you don't mind my asking, have you tried any kind of therapy or treatment for ASPD? If so, did you think it helped at all? How are you getting along in your day-to-day life? Thank you |

Yes, i have been diagnosed with ASPD. I didn't really believe it at first, but it's hard to ignore the cumulative evidence.
I was diagnosed nearly a year ago. Ummm.... besides perpetually mind numbing boredom, can't tell or don't pay much attention to how my "traits" affect my life. I would assume they serve me well, as I'm fairly popular and the "life of the party". Although my doc would prob disagree. Although no other diagnoses yet, my doc and family believe I also have narcissism. Yes, I've been interviewed for psychopathy. I scored a 21 on the PCL-R by judging myself. Scored a 35 during interview. The rules are a bit different here as compaired to the UK. Although I had a high score, my final diagnosis didn't officially change. I've never been brain scanned. |

In any case, I'm not manipulative and I am extremely honest. I also feel empathy. So I have no idea how I wound up being labeled ASPD. I do have a terrible temper, and I've done things I'm not proud of. That might have something to do with it but I don't have an arrest record or anything like that. I don't know who labeled me with it. It may have been a psychiatrist I saw many years ago, or one more recent although I didn't spend significant time being interviewed by anyone recent. It's a mystery to me. |

Were you diagnosed with AsPD? If yes, do you believe the diagnosis was accurate? No I was diagnosed with Borderline or Emotionally Disturbed/Dysregulation but had elevated scores on anti-social, avoidant, aggressive, passive-aggressive, self defeating (lol), schizotypal, borderline, anxiety, alcohol dependance (pfff ********) and major depression subscales of MCMI-III... So I don't know why Borderline is the one that stuck haha
When were you diagnosed with AsPD and how are the traits of it currently impacting your life? ... Distruction of property is difficult to avoid/control, destruction of the self and others also difficult to control, anger issues, doing things to excess (everything from drugs/alcohol to gambling to eating to whatever), bothering to do things like shopping/paying bills when I don't want to gets annoying ect... Do you have any other mental health issues that are co-existing with your AsPD diagnosis? If yes, what are they? Yes as above.... Also ptsd Have you ever been clinically tested for psychopathy (interviewed and brain-scanned etc)? If yes, what is your score on the PCL-R? If no, what do you think you would score on it if you were clinically tested? No, probably a bit more than the average persons score ->(5) If you suspect you have psychopathy and/or AsPD (while every psychopath has AsPD, not everyone with AsPD is a psychopath), but have not been clinically diagnosed with either, what makes you suspect you have it? I don't, I used to wonder for certain reasons but now I don't. If you do not have AsPD or psychopathy, what is your interest in the subject?

I'd love to find out if I've really been labeled with this and if so the reasoning behind that. I'm not sure I'm callous either. I just don't get it.

You don't say what kind of doctor ect dx you? Psychologist? Psychitrist? (ignore my spelling) Maybe you should get a second opinion or ask them about it. They got you to do some tests I take it?

Whoever diagnosed you with ASPD should be fired on the spot. You clearly don't have it.

I didn't think so, but who knows. At first I thought they'd gotten me mixed up with someone else. I don't know who diagnosed it or why. I'd like to know though.

I miss the East Coast.. everyone walks with lead in their pants and drives like geriatrics in the mid/west Also, regarding the test.. the revocation of conditional release always confused me. I have never had jail time, but when admitted to the hospital during a depressive episode they kept me longer than originally planned, even though i was clearly the most sane and positive person of all the nuts in there. So, how exactly do they scale this aspect of the PCL-R? Also, have you take the PPI? If you are interested, I have the test as a PDF file. |

I did not see a psychologist enough to be diagnosed but they suspected me of having it. They said I had strong indications. However they said it could not be diagnosed because I had the onset of schizophrenia, which I believe is false. I just think I am better than others. Thinking one unable to die does not mean that they have schizophrenia. I have wanted to take brain scans because I am interested in seeing how my brain works. MMPI states I have strong psychopathic traits. Eh. It is what it is. Other "disorders" I may have are: Trichotillomania (which problems stems from an underlying OCPD).
An another note, I believe people misunderstand those that carry this diagnoses. Not all of them are out there to mistreat people. At least not always for a negative outcome for the "victim." I mean, sometimes you just have to look out for number one. If you can't take care of yourself, how can you take care of someone else. And what about "not having deep feelings for people"? Does it not occur to anyone that the little bit that they give to someone is more than any other. That should speak volumes. Just my thoughts.

I do not have AsPD, but I can answer your last question. My husband was diagnosed with AsPD and he was clinically diagnosed with Psychopathy. Our relationship began when we were very young...we have been together for 15 years now and his diagnosis has effected ever part of my life. I'm interested in it as much as one can be when it fills your life.
