I have derealization 24/7 and can't seem to shake it. Every day I wake up, there it is. It is as if I woke up in a twilight zone. I try to forget about it and there it is. It started with me being drugged with marijuana laced fudge May 4th. I am currently on Seroquel, Celexa, and Ativan as needed. I hate my husband etc and it makes me feel bad. I am not comfortable anywhere....
Anyone else having this? I am 42 years old and have been married since October. It is tearing us apart.

I'm not familiar with the term derealization; can you explain further? Or give examples of the feeling?

The feeling is that nothing is real, like I am in a dream constantly and I don't feel like myself.

Found this for you:
Quote:
Derealization (DR) is an alteration in the perception or experience of the external world so that it seems strange or unreal. Other symptoms include feeling as though one's environment is lacking in spontaneity, emotional colouring and depth.[1] It is a dissociative symptom of many conditions, such as psychiatric and neurological disorders, and not a standalone disorder. It is also a transient side effect of acute drug intoxication, sleep deprivation, and stress.

((((((((((((((Otherlifegirl))))))))))))))) Perhaps the medications need to be altered? Have you talked to your doctor?

Thanks for the description. Yes, I know that feeling all too well. I call it out of body feeling. Like you're not attached to yourself. When I was put on Paxil it went away. Otherwise I would use the Ativan or Klonopin to help.

Did you talk to your doctor about the marijuana incident? Maybe he/she has something to counter the effects that might still be in your system

I did talk to my psych about the incident and he is not sure it is still in my system at all so he did not even go there....

How long did you have this feeling for?

For about 6 months heightened; about 3 years low level.

It is all part of the depression. The short story is I have been depressed all my life and had the panic attacks. When prozac came out I used that until it went generic and I had issues with it. So, I then was told I was Bipolar and put on Trileptal. I used that for three years and suddenly it turned on me and had to go off of it fast. When that occured I had some major withdrawls, sever depression and major anxiety. They were giving me the tranq's until they could figure out what to do. I ended up in the psych hospital and the inpatient doctor diagnosed back to the original depression with anxiety. That's when I was put on the Paxil and after a few weeks of taking it (it takes 3+ weeks to start feeling the full effects) I noticed everything around me changing. Like coming back into myself. Everything had dimension again, Colors were brighter, my mood was/is happier. I'm actually doing things I haven't done in so long.

For awhile I was using an Anxiety and Phobia workbook, it helped some for the anxiety but once I went over the top thats when I was hospitalized, etc. I still use the book and the techniques for minor flares of panic/anxiety.

Hope this helps some.

Otherlife maybe you need to change your meds. I take Paxil also, and I am symptom free. These meds have really changed my life. You should give the Dr. a call and see what he says about this.

Have you found anything to help aside from Paxil? I can't take SSRIs since they make me sick, but I have this problem too and the Wellbutrin isn't really helping with it. I'm glad Paxil helps most people with it, though.

He prescribed Propranolol but thought it might not work. He was against Paxil for now. told me I could take the Propanolol with the Ativan. I have decided not to as I don't know if it will help. I have an appt. with him tommorrow. I can't take time off work as my hubby is unemployed now and so I can't go to an intensive treatment program for this....all the more worse...

Is it possible that you are still being affected by the marijuana? I mean, is it possible that THC is still being released from fatty tissue in your body causing you to feel this way? If that is the case, it may go away on its own with time. Either way, good luck to you in getting the right meds to get this straightened out and keep us informed on what works.

I know with some ssri drugs, it can takes weeks for one dose to work all the way through your system. This is because the drug is absorbed by fatty tissue and then released very slowly over time.

the PDoc had sort of touched upon that possibility of it still being in my fat stores but it has been well over 30 days since the time I ingested it, so it should have been out by now. I ingested it on May 2nd and it is now July 9th. he has given me Zyprexa hoping it will counteract the psychogenic factor of the THC.

You have derealization 24/7 too? I do not know about Paxil, my PDoc has decided to keep me on Celexa a bit longer and he changed my Seroquel to Zyprexa today. I also have Ativan 3 times a day as needed
