My boyfriend has been dealing with anxiety and obsessive thoughts for a couple months now. It sometimes stresses me out a great deal. Today he had what seemed like a complete irrational breakdown. I am beginning to wonder if there is more going on here than just anxiety, or if I am just not understanding what is going on, and stressed out by him.

He has obsessive worries about someone (a specific person) coming after him, suing him, pressing charges against him, even though he has not done anything wrong. He also worries about being falsely accused and prosecuted. He talks about it over and over again in different ways, comes up with different "what if" scenarios, etc. He says he knows that it is irrational but he also asks me if he "should or shouldn't" be worried about what is bothering him. My answer is always the same (no, he should not worry because he didn't do any thing wrong). We both agreed that he has delusions because his worries feel "very real and valid" to him. These thoughts of his come and go. A lot of the time he does very well and we are happy together. But there have been 2 times within the last week and a half where he has completely freaked out to me. I can calm him down but it is emotionally taxing.

I told him that he may benefit from CBT, but he disagrees. He is seeing a therapist right now who does not believe in "talking about your problems." Although, it seems he wants to do that a lot when he is with me. And cbt is not just about talking about your problems. Anywho, if someone could give me some insight on any of this, that would be great. if anyone knows what it is that he is going through I would appreciate knowing. thanks.

You friend needs to find a therapist that will help him. The one he is seeing now is not helping your friend.
