Maybe you could get some balloons to play with? Since you like to make people laugh, you might teach yourself to make balloon animals. At the very least, you could even destroy the balloons to show yourself you have nothing to fear from them.
Food luck. |

What if you first just look at photos of ballons and then,e eventually, have someone you trust hold a balloon near you until you can stand that. If that goes well you may want to hold it yourself. Babysteps.
I know, I have a snake phobia and we have them all over our rock wall in the summer. Can now look at pictures and can watch my husband pick one up (garter snake-not a poisonous one) but haven't gotten to the hold it myself point. Good luck & let us know how you do. |

I used to be afraid of balloons as well because of the evil clown movie, IT. I saw it when I was very young, and that night there were actually balloons in my room which sealed the deal on my phobia. For most of my life I was especially afraid of floating balloons not tied to something, and even more specifically at night. However, I can't even remember the last time that I had an issue with them, because I can't even remember the last time I've seen one. I don't know if they would still affect me the same way or not. But I know how I still feel about clowns. The last time I saw one of those IRL I was on a cruise ship several years back. I was walking down a corridor and one came out of a doorway at the end of the hall in front of me. All I remember is turning around and running down the hall screaming.
Do you know where your phobia stems from?

I share that phobia. Ugh.
I'm a mom now and that has forced me to be around balloons at parties, etc. That's made it SLIGHTLY more bearable, but I still hate it. I don't really have any words of wisdom, but wanted to let you know that I can relate. You are the first person I've ever ran into (besides myself!) with a balloon phobia! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Get the balloons and don't blow them up until you are comfortable.
