I was just prescribed this today. I used to take Xanax, but my new doctor will not prescribe it. He said it can be addictive and has depression as a side effect.

Well I looked up Buspar online and most of the reviews say it's worthless. Has anyone here taken it? What are your thoughts? Thanks.

I have friends who have taken it and was satisfied with the results. I have taken paxil and zoloft. Trust your doctor to help you to find what works for you.

Didn't know Xanax can cause depression. Have been on it for years so I'll have to ask my T about it. Thanks for mentioning it cause if it does have that side effect I certainly don't need it.

so far its just made me really sleepy. but all meds seem to do that

and as for xanax...well, it knocked me out too but it worked. but you're right if it can cause more depression, it's not worth it. i could easily go see another dr. and get it prescribed but the thing i like about the dr i have now is that he's not out for a quick fix... he's wanting to find the right combination of meds for me with the least side effects.

guess i'll have to give buspar a little more time.

My mom takes Buspar as needed and she really likes it. I mean, she only has to take it whenever she's feeling really anxious. I have taken it before. It was fine when I took one. But when I took two, it made me feel more anxious and sick at first, so I had to lie down.

I also have a friend that takes Xanax, although he's not prescribed it. He is addicted to it. He really drives me crazy when I talk to him when he's on them. He doesn't understand anything I say, and he takes everything I say offensively. I'm afraid to take them. Maybe it's a good thing the doctor took you off them myself. I hope Buspar works for you. But if it doesn't, the doctor can prescribe you something else.

I've been on Buspar 40mg for about six months. It is the only med that ever worked on my GAD problem.....Unlike Xanax, it takes a long time (like a week or two) to get the relief needed to function.....that is why most people don't like it....it is a slow awakening, if you will, to a less stressful life. I don't get drowsy either, I seem to think clearer without the pall of anxiety over my head....that in itself is just so much relief. I take other meds for other things, but for my GAD, I won't give up the Buspar.......
P.S. It's not addicting...and it cost $4 at Walmart....................
