I was prescribed a low dose (.025) of xanax for anxiety. I had a bad Urinary tract infection a few weeks back and has triggered such panic, i feel like i am always running to the bathroom or so uptight, i am clenching and holding in andont even have to go??? I got my bladder scoped on Aug 30th and all is normal, but so painful. My family dr. decided that an anti anxiety med may help. It has, but I am so worried. I go back to my family dr. on sept 13th to talk about what to go on permanently. I dont want to rely on the xanax as I know its addictive... any insight, or opinions would be wonderful. Thank you!!

You can be advised by your doctor how to use Xanax without ending up addicted.
It is a medication that your body builds up a tolerance to if taken all the time, so if you take it as needed and the smallest dosage that is helpful, you can avoid addiction.
Sometimes just knowing I have it if I need is all the reassurance I need.
Thanks for this!

I agree with Echoes. I've been on xanax for over 2yrs and I'm still only taking 1 every other day or if I feel a high anxiety or panic attack coming on (or if I have to leave the house for anything), though I am prescribed 2 dailly. I'm still worried I will get hooked but if I was going to be it would've happened by now. It is a good medication as far as I'm concerned and I am glad I have it.

safe hugs for you ((((((babydoll)))) I am sorry you are feeling such strong anxiety. Suffice to say, you are not alone in that. My doctor will not prescribe xanax in her practice. However thats because she is concerned that people will abuse it. As others have said, taking it every other day is perfectly safe. your body will not become addicted.

I really like my doctor and do not want to switch. I told her at my last appt that when I lost both therapists I was going to, due to losing my insurance, all I wanted was a xanax cookie. We laughed. But I was sort of serious. I take klonapin. Which is not as strong. But she is willing to rx it for me. I am glad that your doctor has prescribed it.
Thanks for this!
