I don't know why, but whenever the school counselor calls me down to her office because she wants to check up on me, I get so scared, and a lot of the times i have a panic attack, and i have to go to the bathrooms and i throw up, and i shake so bad....... and i dont want to be scared of her, but i am scared of all counselors...... I dont want to be, though! How can i have panic attacks and be scared and shake and not want to????

Perhaps it is because you are afraid that she will be 'assessing' you. I know I feel like I am being interrogated by my psychiatrist sometimes. But counsellors are there to help and to talk things through with - a listening ear too and they are impartial - I mean they will not be potentially biased like a family member or friend could be.

I think it is hard to let anyone in when we can't fully understand our inner world and battle to keep control and stability over it. I used to get high anxiety meeting anyone that wanted to "talk" about me or my emotions/problems. Maybe your anxiety is due to something like that but maybe not. The only way I can think to deal with it is to work with a therapist and/or try to find a DBT, or CBT group where you can relate with others. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy treatment saved my life.
Hoping you find something that works for you.

Look inside and see what is there and allow it to surface

Hello, toughgirl. Does the school counselor know about your distress? If not, can you talk about it the next time you see her? You might print your post and give it to her beforehand. I suspect she would like to know so the two of you can work to ameliorate your reaction.

Good luck.

Being "called down to the office" always seems to be an axiety producer for me. It doesn't matter what office or why.
Would schedualing check-ins help? Or is there another way to do the check-ins?
