I don't remember being anxious as a child either, but as an adult one day at work I actually thought I was having a heart attack my chest hurt so bad from the anxiety.

I don't usually suffer from panic, my anxiety is social, but my therapist thinks a lot of my anxiety comes from 1) my mom's alcoholism, she's been sober for 18 years...so I was 11 when she quit drinking and 2) my mom's own anxiety about EVERYTHING in life. The rest she just thinks is "the way I'm wired".

Hi Alyssa. Personally, I have had anxiety problems my whole life. I remember very clearly as a child having all kinds of anxiety-related issues. That was a long time ago!!!! And anxiety, panic attacks and phobias have been a pattern throughout my life.
But an Anxiety Disorder can develop at any time. You don't have to be born with it. It can be triggered by a stressful event, or it can just creep up on you gradually. Or suddenly. Are you getting any professional help?
