I am presuming it goes by your symptoms... ie BP1 is more mania and up's rather than being BP2 and being more depressed and down day's. Then they will look at your history, other symptoms and how you are there and then.
I am guessing I was diagnosised as having BP1 due to the fact I slept 0 hours and had done so for 4 months and my Thyroid was fine and I was clearly having manic episodes where I was NOT being me. It is also very handy to have the same GP throughout the whole process as she can have a major say so in how you have been over X amount of time. For me I was seeing my GP for 1 full year constant before my diagnosis was made. Hope this kinda helps |
