I was diagnosed by my doc today with GAD.
I was given generic paxil and xanax.
Has anyone taken these for GAD, did it help? Side effects?
Did you find you worried less? What makes you worry less?

I worry about worrying too much and its driving me crazy!

Hi Jeanne. I have GAD too, as well as Panic Disorder and some phobias. I did take Paxil years ago but I actually found it too sedating and I just wanted to sleep all the time. After a while I came off it and tried something else. I take Zoloft now and I do better on this medication.

But obviously none of this means that Paxil will have the same effect on you. I know other people who do really well on Paxil for their anxiety. So I do hope it helps you.

As well as medication, I think that "lifestyle" is very important, for example, exercising every day, eating well and trying to get enough sleep etc. I also find meditation helpful. Oh, and therapy too!!!

Wishing you all the very best, Jeanne! Let us know how you're doing!
