I jusy don't know what is the matter with me. For 5 years I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. Luckily I moved to CA and found an amazing doctor and 2 ttherapists. I did open Pandora's box however. After 15 months of weekly sessions with my psychiatrisy and therapist, I no longer have the label of bipolar, but PTSD and ADHD. Sexual, physical, emotional.........abuse for 32 years. I'm now on Trileptal and Concerta. I'm a rapid metabolizer, so I have to take the Concerta 4x a day.
I just seem to be so angry and agitated and emotional ALL the time!! Before my period I am an emotional basket case. I just want to be calm - does anyone else feel angry and agitated all the time?? What are your diagnosos's - maybe I'm missing something.......I just really need someone who understands to hear me.
Thank you.

My little two cents if it helps is....
If these feelings of anger, agitation and overall hightened emotional states are new for you or intensified it may be caused by your medication. Perhaps talking about this with your Pdoc and working with medications and dosages will help.

Take Care

Being an 'emotional basketcase,' as you call it, before your period could indicate a problem. I think it's Premenstrual something or other disorder. Check it out.

I get this way too! I'm still dealing with the docs because I think it's hormonal and not just a chemical imbalance in my brain. But the family dr says go to the obgyn, the obgyn offers BCP and then says go to a psychiatrist (while practically shoving me out the door!), the psychiatrist only helps by giving me depression and anxiety meds. It's terrible! No one wants to really help!

I took a test on menopause that a nurse friend of mine found in a book (I'm only 27!!), and it seems that I'm going through menopause or at least pre-menopause already! This explains A LOT, so I started taking some herbal supplements of estrogen and testosterone (according to that book test, that's what my body needed) and I was doing so much better! The book even said, "Many times menopause is diagnosed as depression and people are prescribed anti-depressants to treat it." It sounded just like me!!

I still get really bad the week before my period, and I stopped taking BCP a while back. The doctors refuse to take any tests to check my hormone balances (probably insurance issues... as usual), so I'm stuck.

I take meds for depression and anxiety and insomnia, but I need something more to help with my irritability and overall moodiness. I'm thinking about therapy, but I'm not sure this will help me out completely if the problems are still hormonal. I suggest asking about the hormonal imbalance and see if they'll do any testing to find out. If not, maybe look into the menopause thing like I did and try taking some herbal supplements on your own to see what happens. Good luck!!
