Does anyone else experience this? Sometimes I'm annoyed by it, if its a doorbell or knocking at the door usually my neighbors as I dont know anyone here, I get worked up and anxious, I moved from Buffalo to be left alone to heal and focus on my own recovery, at the same time it can be lonely I do feel destined to live a lonely life, sorry for getting off topic.
Peace.

I find loud noises unsettling, intentionally or not.

Moving across the country can be stressful under the best of circumstances. I'm sure you'll meet some like minded individuals. Colorado sounds like a nice place to be.(I've been to Buffalo, not such a nice place)

Absolutely. When I'm feeling particularly anxious, sudden noises or prolonged sounds are hard to take. Noises that would hardly be noticed in normal times.
I see that your primary is agoraphobia. I have more than a touch of that but it definitely isn't my primary. I feel almost as much anxiety in my bedroom sometimes.
If you don't mind me asking...does your anxiety level get a lot better when you're inside or just a little more bearable? I can understand that you must sometimes feel like a prisoner even if the anxiety level is much lower when you're safe inside.

Yeah I lived in Buffalo my whole life and thought I would always stay because of my family being there, feel a little guilty i guess, for the last 8 months I was there I lived on the infamous west side, the day I moved in was sitting on uppper porch with friends and a fight broke out in front of the house with 20 people and they were chasing each other with bats. Yikes. Drug dealers, drug addicts, and prostitutes right in front of my house, someone pulled a knife on my dog, first day I drove off by myself to the store to get hair dye there was a shooting 2 minutes from my house at 2:30 in the afternoon, the last straw was the fly over by a police helicopter and several cops on the ground searching for a man who did a home invasion, my housemate was LOVING It outside asking the police what he can do to help, i sat on the porch and just cried and knew it was time to get out of there, Lol, knew i wasn't going to get a lot of support from housemate. Thanks for listening, Colorado is just gorgeous.

I hate people whispering in my ear

Getting cranky just thinking about it.

I have a fan running on high at night. The white noise it generates drowns out the background noise and I sleep like a champ. Even in the middle of winter, my trusty fan is on.
Thanks for this!

fan is a great idea i have a ceiling fan and i love it the stairs going up to th esecond floor and third floor apartments are made of metal and rattle when its windy which it has been every day since I moved here, not mild wind, really windy plus they make noise obviously when people take their dogs out and walk up and down the stairs, I can even hear the dogs nails hitting the metal , do I have a hypersensitivity to noise or something? what causes that? off for my walk.

I am sensitive to repetitive noises like lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners, hammering, dogs barking, motorcycles - these sorts of noises just set my nerves totally on edge.

Oh me too. Those cause me terrible stress.
Also conversations where people are laughing a lot.

WOW interesting conversations where people are laughing a lot are really bothersome to me and I chalked it IN MY CASE to me suffering from depression and wishing I could laugh like that and feel so happy.

yes, sometimes I am very sensitive to noise. It seems like everything is expoding! Sometimes I have to even cover my ears. I think its when I am depressed or maybe anxious.. for me though I think its the darn depression!! Trust me, you are so not alone in this!!!

I hate noise... especially when there are a lot of noises competing with each other. And I am a percussionist so I was around drummers all during high school... that was fun. Now it's restaurants that frustrate me with all of their noise.

Also, my cat likes to scratch her paws on things and the sound makes my blood boil.
and: baby screaming/crying, yelling/arguing of any sort, the sound when a dog does that weird sound with their mouth, drilling, hammering...

I suppose everyone has at least one theory on the cause(s). Sudden unexpected noises obviously have the possibility of startling one. Some noises are just annoying e.g. lawnmowers, dogs barking etc. As for the others...I think that when I'm very anxious I just don't like the extra stimuli.
