I think I may have found the most significant diagnosis for myself. I read someone's signature about being hypersensitive, and decided to google it. I found a whole website on it and realize I have every symptom associated with hypersensitivity. I am constantly aware of everything going on around me and when Im in a crowd its some much to take in I become agitated. I have always said I have a sixth sense for seeing "through" people, seeing their true selves. I have telked to my pdoc about some of these symptoms and feelings and he has never mentioned this. I feel other peoples emotions around me and sometimes react and feel worse than the person. Anyone else have this? Are their any treatments or therapies for this?
Of course I know I have true diagnosis of a mood disorder leaning more towards BP but I just thought this was interesting. Reading this article was my "Ah-Ha" moment |

Starchild3, there's a good site explaining "what it means to be hypersensitive." Do a search on about.com, then hypersensitivity. There's even a quiz to take. I really don't think you can change this because it's part of who you are. There are ways to practice your reaction to certain situations. But in the end, we are born that way, 15 to 20% of the population. I got 9 out of 10 right on the quiz, so you have company; they call us empaths. Good luck towards your goals Starchild.

I took a quiz on another site and I answered yes to 22 questions. They considered you hypersensitive above 14 so I think I am extremely hypersensitive. I am okay with no way to treat it I'm just so glad that there is a name for it and I'm not alone in my feelings. Learning this has made me feel so much better. |

I agree, made me feel better too. I guess before I saw it as a weakness or defect, now a "personality type." To be sure it has its downfalls, for example I over react to everything, but hey I was born like that - not my fault, just bad luck......

At least people will know when you say "I know how you feel" that you really do know... Well no... They don't I still have that problem. I understand and feel sorrow for all the problems of others and they all look at my sympathy as forced and unknowingly sincere. So yeah... But we know how we feel and that it's genuine

Wow im really hyper sensitive to other people. Kind of like empathic sometimes. Makes it hard to have boundaries, feel like it' s both
curse and gift. I have used it to help others before, but i have to be careful to protect myself and even others. Sometimes people need to own their own pain and problems. |

Wow! Same here. I have BP, constant anxiety and some sort of social anxiety disorder also. This explains so much. I really do like people and being social, but I get overwhelmed by all the noise everyone creates and I need to go home where it is quite and kind of re-charge.
