Okay, so here are my facts:
1. I just had my second baby 3 months ago.
2. The ob/gyn doctor prescribed me Zoloft 5 weeks ago.
3. Yesterday, Hydroxzine was added to help me with my anxiety (which I think was worsened by Zoloft).
4. It is 25mg tablets, with directions to take 1-2 every six hours.
5. I took one tablet at 4pm yesterday, but in my anxious state thought it wasn't working so I took another one an hour later.
6. Now I am MESSED up. It has made me so loopy and out of it. In the last 18 hours I have been a mental wreck.

Does anyone have experience with this drug? When will it wear off? I mean it has helped with anxiety, but dang I've gone stupid!

Okay, I'm back to my "normal" self. After reading all day on the internet about the drug, I feel better about taking it. I've definitely learned never to take 2 tablets, but I know it would be beneficial for me to at least take 1/2 a tablet. I was a little iffy about breastfeeding while on the medication, but I think it will be okay. She was a little sleepy today probably because of my high dosage, but we made it. I know its better for me to be on the medication with the slight side effects than for me to be off of them completely. It's all a learning process, and I'm doing really well considering the circumstances.
Thanks for this!

I hope it works for you. I got no effect at all when I took it.

I think it is working. The day after I took 2 tablets, I decided not to take any at all because I was scared of the stuff. I had anxiety that day. So I thought...I'd take 1/2 a tablet. I felt more comfortable, so the next dose I took a whole tablet. Too loopy still. So even though the doc said to take 1-2 every 6 hours, I've decided that 1/2 tablet every 6 hours is much better. It's about 12.5 mg if I do it that way, which really isn't a lot at all. It might just be all in my head- a placebo. But whatever keeps me from freaking out over the tiniest things is good. I did notice that the med causes me to have bad dreams even with only 1/2 a tablet, so I don't like that. I used to never dream, much less have crazy dreams like aliens invading mexico, the world ending, and me beating the crap out of my kid. They are scary and depressing! I know you aren't supposed to experiment on your own, but I don't have a psychiatrist...so I'll just be careful.

Where drugs are concerned, I tend to have better luck talking to a pharmacist or a nurse rather than a doctor. They are usually willing to spend more time talking with me, too.

One thing I would suggest asking about is 5-HTP. It is a serotonin precursor. I think you might find that you can take less hydroxyzine with it, and get better effects. It may help the Zoloft work better, too. Of course, all of this is just my opinion, and needs to be verified. But then, if I don't mention 5-HTP as something to ask about it may not come up in conversation, right?
