I'm a broke college student with no health insurance and no money. When I had insurance, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, which has gotten worse since not using the medication.

Does anyone know if there are some over the counter medicine for anxiety? I would like to find something that is healthy and not too expensive.

I have actually heard Ibuprofin works better for some people to help with anxiety than perscription medication.

A few years back when I was trying to control my anxiety without Rx meds, I found at Wal-Mart these tabs in their herbal supplement section called "Calm Tabs". I believe that it has passionflower in it, which is supposedly a natural anxiolytic. I don't remember who manufactured them.

Going along with the theme of natural remedies, there is a product called Rescue Remedy that my family has found helpful. It is a mix of Bach flower essences. It is taken in very small quantities with a dropper and works pretty quickly. It is safe for children, pets, and pregnancy (it's all I used when I gave birth to my youngest child). It can be a little pricey, but you use such a small amount that it lasts a long time. It contains about the same amount of alcohol as a strong mouthwash, but the alcohol is just the method of extracting the flower essences. You literally use about four drops on your tongue. You can find it online and in many natural food stores.

I second the recommendation of Bach's Rescue Remedy. It works greatly for me. and it is probably not a placebo as it worked on a stray cat I took for shelter during New Year's Eve fireworks.

I have tried Kava Kava. you can get it at most health food stores like henrys, whole foods, or mothers market...those are the ones near los angeles orange county area. Kava Kava can be bought in pills or in liquid form that you use a dropper to disperse. It has worked like ativan for me in the past.
