I don't know what to do. I never was one to open to people and its hard even on here. I don't have anyone to talk to. I grew apart from my old friends and family and find it really hard to make new ones. I suffer from severe depression and anxiety in social situations.

I always think that people are talking about me. When I see someone looking at me or hear people whispering I always think its about me. I know that most of it is in my head but its hard. I went back to school a couple of years ago and while it wasn't the reason I went back to school I was hoping to make some new friends. When I transfered to a new school I went from a community college where there were people my age to a four year university where there was nobody my age.

It was impossible for me to make any friends there since I'm 35 and the other students were almost half my age. Some of the students were very mean to say the least. The last semester was very difficult by I managed to tough it out and graduate even though my social anxiety was rapidly increasing.

Now I faced with the dilemma of looking for a job in a difficult economy, with a not so great work history, a psychological disability, the possibility of moving a great distance away, and no friends anywhere. I don't know what to do? It is just is very overwhelming.

It sounds like you've got a boatload of troubles to deal with...and it's always easier to navigate life's rockier terrain with social support. Until you're able to make some new friends, maybe you could use PC as your support system? Therapy would be extremely helpful, too. There are even meds that can be highly beneficial to people with social anxiety.

Allow me to offer you a friendly welcome to PC I hope everything works out for you!

Welcome!
I hope that you keep posting. If you can get a therapist I highly recommend it. Yes, meds can be helpful too. You have a lot to deal with at once, just break stuff down into steps!
Keep coming back here!
