For the last four days on and off I have been experiencing some odd sensations. I took a trip today to the out of hours doctor expecting a diagnosis of low blood pressure, low glucose levels or something along those lines.

All my obs were fine, which left me a bit confused. I left the surgery with a prescription for Propranoloi which he told me would stop the palpitations and the shakes. It was only when I got home and read the leaflet that I realised these tablets were for panic attacks and anxiety.

My symptoms I brought to the doctors attention were feeling really weak, having the shakes, having palpitations and feeling dizzy, faint and having an urgent feeling. No breathlessness which I thought was the key symptom of a panic attack.

Although I have a few big events coming up, re-starting uni on Monday and re-starting trauma therapy I didn't think I was that nervous to have it effect me.

So I suppose my question is "what have I been experiencing" and if they are panic attacks surly I would have been aware to start with that I was nervous.

Hmmmm. So the doctor didn't tell you anything about the pills he gave you? That seems odd to me. I can kind of see the idea of anti anxiety medications helping you with some of those symptoms (heart palp and shakes).

My next thought is, yes I think you would know but at the same time I didn't. Let me try to explain, I've probably had GAD since I was born -maybe even in the womb lol who knows. The point is, thinking back now I realized I've always had anxiety -there are behaviours I remember having as a kid that just scream anxiety. But because I as so used to it, it was just a part of me. I was mega stressed, over tired and a "worrier" but there was "nothing wrong with me". Or so I thought -to me it was just normal. So I think the signs can be there if your looking for them

Another point - I don't get breathlessness with my anxiety or panic. I have everything else but everyone experiences these things differently.

I would call your doctor and find out a bit more about what's going on

I can't say whether or not you're experiencing panic attacks, but it does sound like a distinct possibility. They can manifest differently for different people. Also, I can have them when I'm not feeling the slightest bit nervous. I've learned to suppress my anxiety - unconsciously - so that everything happens beneath the surface of my awareness at times, yet it still manifests physically. It's a very peculiar sensation to have a panic attack while feeling perfectly calm and at ease, but it absolutely can happen. Especially if excessive anxiety has been a problem most or all of your life.

I agree with the other posts. I can be feeling really good , then BAM! anxiety attack I think that is what is so confusing, I am one to stuff my feelings though so when I have no more room with out warning there they come in the form of anxiety! Really can be a pain. A real good mood stopper. Still learning how to deal.

Lifestyle is very much important. Make sure you are consuming a balanced diet with fruit, vegetables, grains and proteins. Bring down or lower usage of caffeine and other stimulants if you're using them. Do regular exercise (30mins a day). Drink plenty of water. Be sure you are getting enough sleep. Then visit a therapist and discuss the problems you've been experiencing.

I have had anxiety attacks that came on me before I even realized there was anything wrong. It's very possible.
