I put my microphone up years ago. I used to sing in church, at weddings, at funerals and special functions.

Well, I haven't sang in public, and haven't wanted to for 5 or so years. The last time I sang was at a funeral. Then I was asked to sing at my grandmother's funeral. Um, I couldn't "perform" at my own grandmother's funeral. I never sang in public again.

About 3 summers ago, I was asked to sing at three weddings and declined. A girl (teenager then, but I'd been a huge part of her life and had babysat her from the ages of 3-6. She calls me aunt, etc.) came up and said, "You'll sing when I get married, won't you? You promised." I said, "For you."

Well, yesterday she called me with the date (July 1) and the song! OH MY! Did I mention it's been years? Whew.

Hmmm, maybe I could sneak into that wedding and listen...have to think about that... make up a plan! lol

Or you will have to turn up your volume so I can hear you in Sweden.

You're gonna do this so good! I have faith in you! YOU have faith in YOU now, KD!

You'll do great, KD. It's such a nice feeling when kids remember you and want you to do something special with them, or share in their special time. A few of my former students, now with better careers than I have ;-), stay in touch with me and it's really gratifying to see where they've ended up after leaving my class.

I think if you concentrate on your feelings for the girl, you'll sail right through. Performance At least, that's how I write recommendation letters to grad school for kids! Performance

kimmydawn,

I'm sure you will do just fine.

You have lots of time to practice.

It's a shame you can't sing to us!

Wow! I didn't know you could sing! Well, I can understand the anxiety and I do wish you luck.

Hey - any interest in exploring the biofeedback/neurofeedback thing with me? Sounds like it might be helpful to both of us with regard to performance anxiety.

hey cool. Kimmydawn the singer. I know you can do this. Go for it and have loads of fun too. When I was doing my public stuff I would get the butterflies in the stomach but I would look at those I was talking in front of and find that one person that I just knew needed my help and it was like I was talking to him or her one on one and before I knew it my part in the "program" was done. That helped me so much. I know people say imagine the audiance in their under roos but that only made me laugh so hard I couldnt talk but if that works for you go for it. LOL Performance

Thank you so much (((((((((((((((everyone)))))))))))))))))))

After telling family, and y'all, I'm getting kind of excited to sing again...especially for someone that means so much to me on such an important day. It will be really easy to just do this for her and put the nerves aside.

Also, a part of me is a real performer, so it will be fine. Performance

thank you so much again.

What's that expression - "You never forget how to ride a bicycle?" Sure, there are the pre-performance butterflies (I've heard just about every major movie star/entertainer gets those) but as soon as yo begin singing, I have confidence the nerves will all drop away and you'll be so happy singing for that special young woman in your life. Thanks so much, y'all!

I got the soundtrack in the mail. I'd never heard the song and practiced it for a bit and pretty much have it. I just need to learn the rest of the words and become more comfortable with it.

It will be fine. The anxiety has actually turned to excitement. Instead of, "It's been SO long.", it's now, "It's been TOO long."

I picked up and part of my life that I'd sat down and singing yesterday was very healing for me.
